Recently, I visited a website that notifies members of selected activities via desktop notification system. I find it very interesting.

Are there similar mods in phpBB?

I haven't used PHPBB3 in a long long time so forgive me if I am wrong, but from the sounds of it:
A live Notifications feature which lives in the header of every page and provides a centralized place to receive alerts about various events, such as when you are quoted in a post.

Sounds to me like it's not desktop notifications, which OP wants, but rather like the MyBB Myalerts plugin.

Ah yes. That one. But it suffers the limitation of only being open to chrome users as well as sending out notifications only when the person is surfing the forum. Once the window closes, all notifications cease.

But that was what I was looking for.

You might be best implementing something like pushbullet, which I THINK also serves to the Windows 10 Notification Center. 🙂
