I've not known a modern laptop that has lasted more than 18 months a waste of money imo

I agree!
Desktops are cheaper and last 100X longer.

even with a cheap motherboard

We've had ones which have lasted years and years. My fathers Dell laptop has lasted 3 years and we've got old dell laptops which will be over 10 years old which still work fine (kinda slow compared to todays technology though).

I would have to go with a laptop, just because of the fact that its portable 🙂

I agree, Laptops don't seem to last as long if you use them as your main computer for 8+ hours a day. I hear a lot of stories of friends, online friends, and family members laptops breaking where the motherboard got fried, the screen breaking, the screen door hinges falling off, wi-fi breaks, or the battery life is poor after a while.

I think a desktop generally last longer because it stays in one place, and also has better cooling because of more cooling fans, and the parts like a higher end video card like the Nvidia GTX 780 are made to last, and can run at higher temperatures, and speeds than a laptop integrated video card.

Laptop. More portable and lighter than a Desktop. besides, you need more space for a desktop.

Im on 8 plus hours a day so that's probably why my laptop didn't last and I also play high end games like battlefield 4.

After a while the laptops fans starting getting louder like a desktop and there was no dust in the fans.

No problems with my desktops with the nividia gefroce gtx card.

I think laptop fans don't last as long because they use blower style fans instead of regular style desktop fans which sometimes last for many years if you buy desktop fans from a good company like Vantec.

mine is from the ventilation fans are from AERO the CPU fan is Intel actually does a good job.

Couldn't leave my laptop on without it over heating.

My desktops uses fans from Artic, Evercool, Sunon, Vantec, and other brands.

I have to use one an USB Laptop cooling pads with fans on the top to keep my laptop from heating up the table, and keyboard which makes it uncomfortable for me to use because of the heat which heats up my hands when I type, and make the surrounding area slightly hotter. The louder spinning noise from the laptop's blower fan at the back of the laptop is also kind of annoying.

I've had this issue where my laptop will start getting hot now, although the fan is still spinning. Any ideas? Maybe I just need to spray it with compressed air?

A USB laptop cooling pad with fans on the top blowing air to the bottom of your laptop would help cool your laptop.

I thought about that but I don't want to have to carry that with me. It didn't start getting hot until about a month ago.

Maybe your laptop fan is breaking, and needs to be replaced or fixed. Fans sometimes break after a few years of regular use. I had a very old computer where the fan spins very slowly, and make loud noises even though there was no dust stopping it from spinning.

its all dependent on your needs. i personally prefer desktops as they are much more powerful and reliable however laptops are more convenient if you travel or move a lot for example work>home.
i would never replace a laptop for a tablet, cant do any work. what i do sometimes is connect to my i7 desktop using vnc and do my work that way and also it enables my to connect to it from anywhere around the world. For gaming go desktop or work and productivity i would go laptop.
both have advantages and disadvantages so its hard to say 🙂

You already have tablet so laptop is not necessary. Buy a Computer in my opinion.
