I just saw this on the news..

A snowball fight started in New York with like a group of people. Apparently one snowball hit a detectives car, he got out and pulled his gun out.

It was like mayhem when he showed the gun chatting in disapproval.

This happened on the weekend and it was in Washington dc. they had a planned snowball fight with over 200 people 😀 and they started hitting cars that were passing and one just happens to be that detective. When he gets out of his car he yells at them and then some retards decide to hit him in the face with a snowball and that's when he pulls out his gun (not aiming a anyone just the floor / Not sure if it was after this or before this he gets hit by the snowball)

the detective was stupid for pulling his gun and the people were stupid to be having a massive snowball fight where cars and people use.

That detective is a major idiot. I'm thinking at first, he thought it was an actual bullet. People like this shouldn't be cops, let alone detectives.

I think that detective just wanted to give those people a small scare, probably was pretty pissed 😛

He was probably grumpy or something because he didnt get to play in the snow 😀

You'd be pissed too if your car was getting hit and someone hityou in the face. Snowballs to the face HURT!

Besides he was just trying to scare the stupid people.

He was just trying to scare them. If he didn't pull out his gun, he would have probably also got bombed with snowballs. He was just trying to show authority.

Could've pulled out his badge instead, or retaliated with ice-packed snowballs. I don't think this should be a career ending move though.

Who knows, those snowballs could have been filled with dangerous items, such as knives or chemicals.

Of course, who wouldn't be pissed if someone hit your car with a snowball? But, that still doesn't give him the right to pull his gun out.

An officer (well in Australia at least) can only draw their gun if they feel their life or someone else's life is threatened. I don't think a snowball will kill him, nor seem like some sort of threatening weapon.

Wait, how old were the people?

So if I or my property was to be hit with a snowball then do I deserve the right to pull out a gun and threaten people with it for throwing those snowballs?

He has the right to be upset but he has no right to be threatening people with a gun when there is no clear sign that danger to yourself and/or others is imminent.

What if this guy's gun accidentally goes off and kills someone in the process? Would you be so quick to justify his actions or would you be wanting his job for it? I doubt anyone would be justifying his actions in this thread if that was the case.

@Santa it isn't dumb, Lets say someone gets hit in the *car* gets nervous and hits someone then what happens?

Well you throw a snowball towards someone who isn't playing, it's pretty hostile. And surprices someone. Can be called an assault 😀
So I don't blame the cop. It isn't any different than throwing someone with a rock. You aren't allowed to do that.
