My daughter bought me some diamond art kits for Mother's Day. I've never done any before and I wonder if I have the patience?? Has anyone done any? What tips do you have for a beginner?

My whole house besides me love them. My son, daughter and wife have tons of them. It's looks relaxing and they have really nice ones.

It hurts my neck! LOL I think I just need a better way to do it. It is going faster than I expected though, but because I'm an artist, I have excellent hand to eye coordination and can just plop them down quickly in place. I'm not sure if I want to do it every day though.

How did your family deal with having their heads down so much?

My wife and son use an easel that helps with that. My daughter just powers through the pain lol

My mother does it all day every day. 😱

oh no!! I do it for about a half hour at a time and then I have to get up and move about.

I've seen them and think they look cool, but I'm not sure if I'd have the patience to actually do one. One of my coworkers told me she bought a bunch of them and really enjoyed doing them. My mom and I went to Michaels last week and saw them in there, and she thought they looked neat too. We didn't buy one, but I might pick one up one day for us to do together, when I don't have a hundred other projects to do.

If you aren't used to doing small, meticulous work, it might be frustrating for you. I'm so used to doing artwork where I can't put a highlight in the wrong spot, that it's super easy for me to get things done quickly. My daughter texted last night and was surprised how far I am in mine. She said she's lagging behind in hers, but she does more computer work than actual art these days.

I don't mind small meticulous work to an extent. I think my problem would be I'd get tired of sitting in the same spot for so long to get it done. I would definitely have to take breaks to get through it! (Unless I'm really invested in it, then I might be able to get through with minimal to no breaks.)

That's my problem! I have it set up on my drafting table and I have a lamp next to it so I can see better, but I'm sitting on the stool that came with the drafting table from the 80s, and wow, I'm getting too old for something I bought when I was in my late teens LOL

I try to only do it a half hour at a time, but last night I was on a roll and was plunking those down for over an hour. You get caught up in things, just thinking about all kinds of things and get in "the zone". But getting up and stretching from time to time is really necessary.

I would never personally spend time doing this, but my fiancé enjoys it.

I guess it's her hobby and it relaxes her when she's not working or sleeping or busy doing whatever else. She buys so many cheap ones on Temu. She's just a little too obsessed with it though 😛

It's just busy work. You can do nothing put pick and plop and think about life and things 🙂

I finished my first one yesterday and already started on another. But the next one has a solid color that fills most of the canvas, so I'm pretty sure it won't be as fun as the first.

My partner does diamond art too but he sometimes doesn't do any for a couple of months.

I wouldn't have the patience to do it myself 😛

I really thought I wouldn't have the patience. I have it set up on my drafting table and I go in there for a little bit at a time and then just leave it all out for next time.

My wife got a few kits years ago, she only finished one and never finished the others. xD It's too tedious for me, so I wouldn't have the patience for it.

My hand is inflamed today and I think it's from doing the diamond art. I'll stop for a few days 🙁

I've never done one, but I stock them all the time at the arts and crafts store, Michaels.
