How do you run your site? Do you do like some admins and it does not matter what anyone says, what you say goes, or do you listen to your staff and make decisions based on their input?

It's not always about you, I get myself going to add what's needed and fitting then as you grow and you have staff to join the team then as A owner or staff you add based on what the community wants.

It's about the community and not what a single person wants.

I kick everyone from my projects so that my voice is the only being heard on the forum. It's a great system.

While I don't have Staff on mine, I do listen to what my members want. I originally started mine to be for the non & ex-religious to talk in a safe manner. But the board wasn't as popular as the others so I hid it for now.
A forum is only as good as its members.

Oooh I am half and half I think. I like to ask a select group of members (in a hidden forum) for their thoughts and opinions and then the owner and I take those into consideration but when it comes down to it, the owner and I have the last say. Well, he does actually but it's rare that we conflict on most things.

On my own forums I prefer to work with everyone on things, however, the final decision always rests with me.

Collaboration is the key, you can't have someone running bull-in-a-china-shop over staff members saying that their word is law, it just doesn't work. You take input, even criticism, in a constructive way, learn from it, and build as a person. In 20+ years of being involved with forums I've never just tried to bully my way through decisions. I check with my co-admins and moderators and go from there.

You can definitely have things 'your way' and yet still function within a team environment, but the second you start to bully people, scream at them for going against your wishes instead of just chatting with them to see their viewpoint, or disregard sound advice to do something most can see is a bad move...that's when you start the trip down the mountain that is failure.
