Hey all,

A lot of you have probably realised that a lot of promotion forum has died and even FP has been less active than before. Do you think that promotion forums are just generally dying or do you think this is due to FP, the largest promotion forum losing activity?

I personally think this is due to FP losing activity. FP being the largest promotion forum has lost a lot of activity since and this has lead to the whole niche dying. It's a bit like the Lehman brothers, since they collapsed the whole economy has gone into recession. FP has lost activity which brought down the whole niche.

So what do you think?

I think forums in general have been losing activity due to social media. It's not just FP and other promotional forums, it's all types of forums.

I agree, it's not just here. Back in the early 2000's it was much easier to run a successful forum. Now like John said, Social Media is taking over but they won't take it all. Many of us still use forums, especially webmasters and SEO nuts ;]

I think many small Promotion Forums has died. FP should pick up during the summer time.

i think in some sense, forums in general have been slowing down, but yes, the promotion forums / advertising forums niche has been dying down a lot because it's all the same, it's all the same people, and it really doesn't work that much over other types of advertising... sure, you'll get members and them posting a few, but only a couple will stay if they like the forum and the members/community... if you get "services" from a ad forum, then basically, you'll see the same faces over and over again, especially packagers, if you get package services from them... and it seems like when you buy a package service or deal with others in postings, those people aren't at your forum because they want to, it's because it's their job or they made a deal with you, so it's a bit noticeable who the real members are and who are there because of other reasons... and you can see it in their posts as well...

So what do you think?

Personally I think the entire promotion niche is going down the drain. You have several problems.

1. Forums are obsolete and are already becoming increasingly unpopular. There's no need to promote for a software platform no one is going to use. So there's very little need for promotion.

2. Foreigners have flooded many of the big webmaster boards with spam and scams. Where they make a wordpress blog, fill it with some dupe content, give it a slightly aged domain, and try to sell it for $10. That's why Digital Point is currently dying. There's nothing of value left there.

3. This community has moved on. I think many of the members have gotten out of foruming all together. I'm at the edge of doing that myself. I'm tired of the hard work of starting a forum is - it wasn't so hard years ago. So many of the members have simply moved on. This forum serves a single purpose and that purpose is now aged and obsolete.

If you want my two cents on the matter I think this trend is going to continue until we see the niche (and unfortunately this site) die off completely. I think if you want to salvage this project and increase it's value you are in the very unique position of being able to transform this place into a general niche forum. 99% of us like forums, we don't admin them anymore, but give us a popular platform to talk and you'll find us here all the time. You have the numbers so you just need to add the incentive for them to come back - we all want an active platform to be a member on. You also have a dedicated staff you can turn into moderators of their own sections. Pretty sure John, Cosmic, and I could hold down one or more politics sections with ease. Provide that in a suitable and growing niche (on decent software I might add) and you'll turn this place around. Don't even bother changing the site name - FP will become what it will become and we'll all recognize it as such.
