I think ones with good metrics like high domain authority, trust flow, etc. would help big time, but some are convinced that directories are blacklisted by Google and other search engines.

However, the facts don't seem to back up the nay-sayers. In fact, Matt Cutts (the Google SEO guy at the time) a few years back simply confirmed that high quality directories - which obviously would have two or more good metrics - are indeed a good thing. But, I'm wondering, how good are they?

Directories are no more important for SEO as Google considers them as thin sites with very less content. Hence these websites are rarely crawled and indexed by search engines.

I believe directories will still work good for local seo purpose. But please do not automate directory submissions.

Well, I do know the big-name directories are out of this world expensive! In that case, they must be worth something - and they're certainly in a good business!

These probably have super high SEO in itself, which Google looks at I believe. I've been out of the SEO game for a few years now, but I can only assume this is still the case. If it is, then regardless of how 'low' their content is, the higher SEO the higher pull they have if your site is linked on theirs.

Well, that would make a link from there worth it, of course!
