As a highly mentally and physically disabled person. I've worked as a secretary-typist from 20-25 years old to be on disability. Doesn't pay extras, but it pays the bills and I'm grateful for that. There's a single day that I don't thank the stars that I have disability.
I was a full time computer programmer until about 6 years ago when I quit to look after my mother as her dementia started to really take hold. As of nearly a year ago now I'm "employed" as her full time caregiver. It does not pay well, at all, but it gives me some pocket money to entertain her.
Too much welfare is making it rough on businesses in the US. Nonetheless, some need at least some disability, but without a routine, kind of like in jail, it can be boring.
I've had a job since I was as young as 15 and my health has always been fair. So no, I don't qualify nor want to be on disability. I'd probably die of boredom staying home for too long.
