Okay for the longest time of using forum software, I have never used the whole "disallowed usernames" part of the software, let alone the disallowed emails.

How many of you guys actually use this? Anyone mind telling me how it's useful other than blocking people from using "mod" or "admin" as their usernames? 😛

I don't run any forums so I don't use them, but I think they might be useful for getting NSFW content out of the way, like names based on obscenities or swear words.

I agree. I don't run any specific plugin but inappropriate names are not allowed.

I don't use the settings for it but if there was someone with an inappropriate name they would be asked to change it or banned if their a spammer etc.

I would have to agree with kingcool52 - if someone was to use an inappropriate username we would require it be changed or that member shall be banned.

I usually block a few usernames, including the classic "Admin" type usernames, and sometimes a few variations on my own name. Not really an urgent thing to do I guess, but I don't think it hurts anything either. 😛

Wouldn't it be better to make sure they are never able to make such names in the first place, rather than having the chance that a spammer might run around with an NSFW user name before any mods get to notice them? Though I've seen a place that filters bad words so furiously, people can't type common, perfectly innocent words because they contain questionable ones. Like 'grape' isn't allowed because it contains 'rape', which is ridiculous at times, so I get that a whack-it-when-it-happens approach might be more favorable for some.

I generally do not start out with any. However, as Cosmic stated, I'll generally disallow my own IRL name, and I'll also disallow a staff member's old screen names. 😛

I just have the default moderator and username ones. If someone makes a username that I am not comfortable with (i.e. if it promotes something illegal or is basically a similar username to a staff members) then I will remove it manually giving them a chance to change it.

I imagined if you used a very perverse username, you'd more than likely get banned for it.

i think there're some names should not be allowed. Like F*, or D*, or Admin.. i'd like not to see swear everywhere. Let forum be a peace place! 🙂

Never used it, nor do I expect to. There's always a loophole for people to try and create an interference with your community. Usernames being one of them. If a member has a username that goes against your discretion, have them change it. That simple. If the member gives you any grief, kindly show them the door. I feel common sense should dedicate this issue, not a filter that has infinite loopholes.

I agree with pretty much everyone else on here. Someone with an inappropriate name would be asked to change it or banned if they refuse to do so.

I don't have it to where they can't register with a certain word, etc, in their username, but if I saw someone with something inappropriate in their username, I'd ask them what they'd like to change it to.

I don't have anything set up, but I could if I had to. I hope never to have to.
