Discord Is Testing Forums, Mod Tools and Homepages

Ironically this is an indication of how popular Discord has become. Some of their more popular communities are massive which often results in too many people attempting to chat in real time. Forums as we all know allow for a more ordered conversation thus spreading the load on oversubscribed channels. It's worth noting this is not the only addition Discord is currently testing.

We've seen multiple social media platforms adapt in order to expand their user base and this is no different. In my view the majority of forum software has been slow to adapt when it comes to capturing new audiences which makes our job harder. I've seen a lot of forums migrate to Discord in the last few years and I fear this may well attract a few more.
As someone who was a moderator of the Fortnite Discord...it was a nightmare to moderate. I've not been a mod of a big Discord since then, but am interested in the idea still.

I think its too new for people to use it in a meaninful way. But it is also Discord's jab into this median. I'm interested to see whats happening later down the road for this.

I am in a Zelda Discord server which added a forum channel and it's going as well as I'd expected.

Just my opinion though. I have seen some use it, but it just is not it for me.

I don't think they can replace forums as we know them.
Yup, exactly. I think it's not that great. Also the video they made seemed like it was taking a shot at actual forums.

I never would use discord fourms option never

They're poorly constructed and basically just another chat room with perma-links to earlier time frames. They no doubt have a place for larger servers, but they a bit pointless to the average user on an average server

It is more for larger servers. I've seen it mostly in those anyway and it works out well for them.

When I think of "forums," I think of a public thread(s) with posts in them. But... their idea is to expand what they currently ha- have...? WTF?

Agh. These companies are just dumb. Discord is stupid.

To that, I laugh. Yeah, whatever, Discord.

That's exactly my response to this. I was tinkering with Discord the other day, and I saw the option. I thought to myself... "What? YOU call THIS ...A FORUM!?"

HAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHA.

I think I understand the idea a bit. It's not really meant for small or medium servers. It's for bigger and larger servers where they can easily maintain feedback, suggestions, etc. It's way easier to contain those into their own forum channel than in a normal chat room.

Do you think they are more geared toward the gaming communities?

Perhaps you're right, soon as I hear discord I think gaming, Will be interesting to see how far their forum goes.

Are Discord forums indexed by search engines? If not, they are pointless. I've seen them inside some of the servers I joined, but I did not like the interface.

Nope, DIscord is completely different, own servers and own software for people to join and read and voice to talk...

It's not a website a such

I think that them exploring "forums & threads" in Discord is neat. However, I find that it is cluttered when using the threads feature. If you were to setup the discord server to be "forums" only I could maybe seeing it work. But I more so view Discord as IRC, Skype / Team Speak combined. I don't really see it functioning nicely if it were setup similar to forums.
