Discord

It looks like ass.

Which is entirely accurate and is Discord's intended purpose, but then you have people that won't use anything other than. People swear by Discord, even for non-gaming purposes, so I feel that it should at least offer the same functionality that we had in IM clients a decade ago.
Discord can't do everything, they're only human. And quotes are minor compared to all the other benefits. That said, it's on the roadmap, so they'll probably add it sooner or later. I just don't know when.

So seems to me that allot doesn't like discord, I don't mind it since it helps to being in people and also good for gaming community

I just hate the stubborn mentality most people have with it (refusing to be active anywhere else including forums), and the fact it's based on Electron - they also ban people who use unofficial clients. FFS, what happened to freedom?

Same with the discord server in away. Having hard time to get members joining on the server. I mean I join there discord and have no problems and b=make then happy but there are allot that do not return

I myself started using Discord quite a few months back now when I started streaming and as much as I found it difficult to use at first I slowly worked it all out and I love it now!

I love how I can keep in contact with all the streamers and gamers I am involved with and have fun doing so.

Pretty much this, plus the fact that I'm losing functionality compared to a well-known, well-used program from ten years ago. There should be no regression.

I don't get your fuss with the quote feature, barely anyone I know has ever run into problems with that lol

Say what you will about people refusing to leave, that's probably a sign that it's a really good product which unfortunately creates issues for people indirectly competing with it, but there are about a dozen things I'd like before quotes.

One reason I left Skype in fact is because I would make a message and it would sometimes take a full week to deliver it to someone. It would be faster to use a carrier pigeon, also their web interface is like something out of hell.

I really like the platform - it's a mix of what I liked about forums and what I liked about Skype / IM. These days I don't have a whole lot of time to read through a heap of threads on forums but I can spend some time catching up on Discord messages no problem.

I would like to see more Discord channels with good moderation teams because as much as I like the platform, a number of communities I've seen give off a boy-club vibe and I don't feel comfortable on a lot of them. Is this the sort of experience you had, @Scarlharp?

MyBB Discord is kinda like that. It used to be so unmoderated that, I can't remember what it was exactly, but it something along the lines of people talking about snorting drugs or something, and then, the MyBB Team recoiled in horror and installed a word filter bot.

They were also creeping the lead developer out because they setup some sort of cult where they obsessively worshipped him. I think it has gotten a lot saner these days.

Personally I never cared much for skype. I found it bloated and didn't work well unless you had a really good internet connection (due to it using P2P technology). I also found that call quality wasn't that great and there were times, especially in group chats, where it was harder than it should have been to discern what someone was saying. (By that I mean things like words not being broadcast. Or worse, people dropping from the call. Which itself was annoying since getting them back in the call meant re-inviting them. They couldn't just rejoin on their own. At least early on they couldn't.)

I liked Curse, before twitch bought it, because the call quality was better than skype and it had a good layout. I haven't really used it since twitch bought them because they forced everyone to abandon their Curse names and use twitch names.

Discord is nice in that it has a few features like web browser mode or desktop mode. Call quality is on par with Curse's.

As for Discord killing forums... Please stop.
People have said that kind of crap since way before skype. "Ah, skype is killing forums." and "cboxes kill forums" and "facebook kills forums". Enough with the doomsaying. Time to face the truth... If people aren't using your forum there is very likely another reason for it that has nothing to do with whether you have discord or not. (If you didn't have discord then they probably wouldn't use the forum anyway.) What that is can vary from person to person.
Maybe they're busy and don't have time to write full replies. (I can say from personal experience, days where I work 10+ hours I'm not overly interested in posting.)

I didn't even know about that. I haven't used curse in a very long time. And now since twitch owns it, well I mean amazon owns it then it has became crap. I don'rt like the idea of using your twitch name

And how many of those people are in group chats with tens of people?

I've been in plenty of ones with hundreds of people, in fact I've moderated one which had thirty thousand people. The rules were stricter than a forum on the big one, as otherwise things would quickly go out of control.

I think it's also because we're used to Skype, which had the quoting feature. 😛

I just like the idea of quoting. If you have 100 people all talking at once, it's easy to lose track of who is replying to what. It just makes sense.

@Ajay; that's not always the best way to do things. If said person is talking to multiple people without a quote feature because there isn't one to use, they're not going to know which of their messages you're responding to.

You can always fake a quote with something like:
Re: "QUOTE HERE" - your comment. @tagperson

I myself like it. Started using it when I joined a server for a forum I like. Recently made one for my forum as well.
