Have you ever done one of these or wanting to? You know the courses you can do at home etc then email or send off the completed work? Thinking of doing a course like this next year computer based. Much easier to work in my own time so long as I finish in the set time for said unit study, and less people means more focusing.
I think their fine if for the reason you're planning. You learn and get to do it in a comfortable setting. Don't think I would want a surgeon who got their degree this way operating on me though. 🙂
The most basic of courses can be done this way. Such as if someone who didn't know much of say Java, took a beginners course in the language. Then later down the track they went into further learning by attending courses and such.
It is easier for me as I know lots and lots about computers, websites and development. So I can get courses like that I can do at home.
I did a distant education program through Penn Foster. It truly is great I learned everything I would in a tradtional high school! I now go to college part-time and work full-time as a Computer Technician!
I did 2 classes like this supported by my school: one for basic web design and one for a horror writing class. Both times the teacher had trouble reaching the work or one of us fell behind. I probably won't be doing it again, but it could be a good thing if you have no time for regular classes.
