Do you ever think DNTemple will ever be replaced?

I know it will, at least to an extent. 😉

Sorry I'm confused as to what Trap17 has to do with this? Their free hosting only includes a subdomain. 😛

Might be replaced, know one knows only the creators and admins, plus why was it shut or took down in the first place?

You can't be more wrong.

The have subdomains along with shared hosting, but you can also have domains (many extensions too), VPS, Reseller, and Dedis. Of course you would need a lot of posts for a dedi, but I managed to get two domains and about 1.5 years of hosting just by posting.

Eh I do... I was a moderator there when the shut down happened. It seems that the owner had collect a few thousand dollars in debt, and the site had been listed for sale on SEDO for awhile. Our best guess is that when the hosting ran out for the month, DNMaster decided to simply not renew it.

I'm also still in contact with a lot of the former staff (all moderators), and Gimgak here on FP is as well. At first I had planned to release a site like DNTemple (titled "Domain Vine") however due to recent money issues it has been put on hold (we still want to do it, just needs careful planning to avoid debt).

If Sbfc is talking about someone else creating a site like it, I welcome them to try. I'm looking forward to it :great:

Not saying you're wrong but where's the topic saying the requirements for a domain? 😛

Ah ok, hmm I might as well spill the beans.

I plan on offering something along these lines on Admin Community, it will start off on a small scale though.

Really? I didn't see that coming based on your first post SBFC

You need to have alot of income to offer a service like that. It is something you do need to plan out carefully.

I know, I thought I made it obvious 😛

The plan is to initially only offer .info domains at least at the start because of financial reasons. :great:

Hmm... honestly, I doubt it will become that popular knowing me 😛

I don't think .info domains will be that big a problem financially.

.info won't, but anything more will. DNT's model while good for the user was terrible for DNM. In the time that DNT was up he spent around $15k on the domain names people registered. DDboard was also shut down, simply no forum like this lasts.

hostbidder is still up as well as trap17.
Alright well can't speak for hostbidder but trap17 is mostly regarded as a web host. Sure they offer domains, but I'm guessing most of their users use the cash they earn on hosting accounts more often than domains. On DNT a user might have 10 or so domain names, and that was literally the only want to spend the DN$.

Hmm, interesting statistics... well out of interest what were the requirements for a domain on DNT in terms of posts?

It was 200 posts, although it used to possible with just 100 topics that was changed to earn as much as posts do to spammers. Also reason there were such long wait times, people who spammed for domains ruined the site, and most of them got banned anyway. It was crazy, I mean I would ban at least a few non-bot spammers a week.

Alright, thanks. It would definitely be more then 200 posts needed if I was ever to offer .com domains and posts would closely be moderated and requests would be rejected for low quality posts focusing more on quantity.

Financing an expansion from .info domains would be extremely difficult though.
