I’m wondering if anyone has tried google, Facebook, Twitter or Snapchat ads? Do they work

I paid $50AUD to Snapchat to see if I can get at least 2 sign ups with that budget.

I managed to get 1 user with my $50s worth from Snapchat ads but you’re correct it is expensive.

What are the best ways to promote a new site? I assume SEO?

I guess if I keep the content up hopefully search engines will start ranking the site.

That does not always work, you need to get the content out there and whatnot, Social media accounts and tweets feed. Google does not always see new content.

I’ve been writing daily articles and using tags, people on Facebook generally hate forums I tried that but Twitter might work if I attract the right people.

BingAds are $0.05 per click, the cheapest cost per click you can get for non-invasive, legitimate ads. I spend 30$ per day on BingAds and I get ~600 clicks

Advertisements are a money sink. And if you're doing it with online advertisement. Most people have adblock extensions and applications that ignore those pesky ads. So you may be in for quite a climb.

I have marketed a lot of products and services with ads and it really worked. But I am yet to try advertising my forum for sign-ups. Maybe I will try facebook advertising with $10 budget.

Social Media needs money invested to see any return and I personally feel like the cost per return is not as good. Google Ads has done me well at all price points, but do remember that a $50 ad budget is very small. Your advertisements themselves are also key as it is easy to present ads that have great clicks, but poor signs ups. E.g. place an attractive female on a banner and you will get clicks for days, but not sign-ups, place a solid banner representing your site and you might get 15 clicks and max out your budget just in views, but of those 15 clicks, you get 5 sign-ups.

They do but the thing is how you set them up. Back 10 years ago we could've just post an ad and get results, now you gotta target people or you will waste money.
