Someone in a topic said that arcades in forums are kind of useless.

Do you agree?

Depends on the forum. Also depends on the arcade. I never really use arcades but I enjoy them all the same.

I agree with Manningctu. It all really depends. But they can be an awesome side feature on a site.

If it's a hidden arcade, then I know that only a few people can access it, then I'd be fine. If it's open, then you may as well go to sites which are dedicated in serving games.

You just need a huge community who are willing to post scores for it to be successful.

I've never really used the arcades that forums provide, but I think a forum should wait till about 50 members to have one. This way there is the time to build the userbase and topics and posts before having it in there. I don't think it's bad to have an arcade depending on the niche of the forum.

Really, i think it would be a nice VIP feature, but otherwise it's just pointless.

No I dont really like arcades that much, however I offer one to my members as some of them like that sort of thing. 🙂

Does not take away from activity on the forum as they have to make 5 posts to unlock the arcade for the day. Some are too lazy to do that so having to worry about the arcade taking up too much resources is not a problem.

It would probably use more bandwidth going to sites like that then going on a forum arcade, where you're not going to get half page size ads and flashing everywhere.

Everything uses bandwidth, no matter what you do. That froghost banner up there wastes our bandwidth but none of us boycott this very site. A large percent of sites use adsense, but no one complains about the bandwidth, only them being ugly. Arcades are just pointless unless there is serious competition among members. I doubt any of the forums advertised here actually have any competition on arcades, and if there are any, then only a small percent of the total.

I would rather play an arcade on a real arcade site than a forum arcade, particularly a forum with less than 10,000 posts like most, but not all, of the ones 'round these parts.

Hardly the point I was making. Yeah of course everything uses bandwidth, but with more bandwidth, site speed is affected in the process. Plus, there are plenty of forums that are of high quality which has an arcade. You may just be looking at one right now 🙂

If an arcade has good games on it, then heck I'll go and play it, but otherwise I prefer to be more active on the forum than anything else.

I like to have a bit of friendly competition from time to time.

Saying that, haven't been on a forum with an arcade for about 2 or 3 months, so they've probably changed a bit now. 😛
