do avs have to be .jpg?

Sorry if I did this wrong, I thought it fit both forums..

I am trying to use a .gif image, and the site here says it is expecting a
.jpg... How can a server expect a file to be in a particular format? Is there anyway to get it to work?

Change the .gif to .jpg then it should work as I just tried yours.

Yeah someone put it as a gif image when it isn't so the server is thinking that as it ends as .gif that it is a gif then it realises that it is actually a .jpg.

What determines if it is .gif or .jpg? The other one that the
background cut was ttaken with a cam, but saved as a .gif..
