Does using video game hacks and cheats eventually make the game unfun for you? Do you mostly play without?

For the older consoles, they used to have you upload your save to a thumb drive, get on your computer, and insert mods into it that allowed you to have high health, almost infinite ammo, and other things. Today some game developers let you use mods to cheat on their games.

With the games I play, I feel like spending money on the game’s currency is the cheat now. Take GTA for example.

What people don't understand is that every game these days have a built-in Game Genie already. I mean come on, how else would kids beat games these days?

Yes cheats can be seriously bad.

It takes out all of the fun. Like with Fallout 4; that game is for players who like to take their time doing thousands of quests, gathering materials, and leveling up. Mod cheats kind of take away the point of all of that when it maxes you out at level 300 and gives you all of the legendary items. Not to mention mods crash the game.

ahh i try to complete a game without cheats, i find when putting in cheats it kind of takes the fun and challenge out of the game 🙂

I try to beat games without cheats. When I tried to beat Turok, on prestine Nintendo 64, I found the cheats to beat it... Yes, I'm guilty of it. But that is the rare case. Even today, I can't even beat it, even with save states. There's a Turok Dinosaur Hunter version for PS4.

But playing multiplayer with cheats? I'm against it. You're trash if you cheat online. Seriously.

I tend to use the save game function a fair bit on single player games but that's as close to cheating as I'll get.

I agree with @Carlos X, cheating in multiplayer games is a scourge that needs to be actively discouraged. We used to put a lot of effort into banning cheaters from our gaming servers.

Cheats can give a game a new lease of life after you complete it normally since it lets you mess about with the game, such as giving yourself invincibility and doing things that would otherwise kill you, such as throwing yourself off Mt. Chiliad in GTA V and seeing how far your body can go. 😛
If someone wants to use cheats to beat a game, so be it. Let everyone play how they want to play so long as it isn't negatively affecting anyone else.

If it's some game I really want to beat and it's impossible to get pass one level, then maybe. Otherwise, it's a fun-killer, as some have noted. I mean, the whole point of a game is to overcome obstacles.

It depends, if it's an online game where you play others, then yeah... cheats will ruin the game for everyone.

However, if it's a single player game and I've completed the campaign or have done a lot by myself, I would install cheats to have more fun since it has no impact on other people.

Example of this is in Sims 3 when I used to play many years ago, I'd do the unlimited cash cheat to just build a dream family/home

Nope. I love using cheats in games. I tend to always use them anymore in games I play. I've used them for Yakuza and even other single player games.

I don't agree with cheats at all and unfortunately, it seems to be a huge thing still within the multiplayer world if I am honest. It's such a shame that people will resort to cheating on a game rather than playing it the fairway. Unfortunately, that is up to the game developers to fix.

Cheating can certainly impact the overall experience of playing a game, as it can disrupt the balance of the game and undermine the enjoyment of other players. Here are a few ways in which cheating can ruin a game:

  • Disrupting the balance: Cheating can give an unfair advantage to the cheater, which can disrupt the balance of the game and make it less enjoyable for other players. For example, using hacks or exploits to gain an advantage in a multiplayer game can make it difficult or impossible for other players to compete fairly.

  • Reducing the challenge: Cheating can also reduce the challenge of a game, as it allows players to bypass obstacles or challenges that are meant to be part of the gameplay. This can make the game less rewarding and less enjoyable for players who are looking for a challenge.

  • Spoiling the fun: Cheating can also spoil the fun of a game for other players, as it can lead to frustration and resentment among players who are playing fairly. This can undermine the sense of community and camaraderie that can be an important part of the gaming experience.
Overall, cheating can definitely ruin the game for many players, as it can disrupt the balance and fairness of the game and undermine the enjoyment of other players.

I see nothing wrong with it and that's what they're designed for.
