Yes, they do, for those of you wondering x3;;
It's easier to remember, it's look professional... very sophisticated.

YES,

in my opinion, domain names play a huge part in the popularity of your site. They're easy to remember, they look professional and it shows the owner cares about their site.

I purchased one, and my site began doing much better for it ~smile~

Also isn't it easier for your forum to be indexed on search engines?

Yes, and also online directorys.

Most search engines and directorys wont index sub-domains such as: yoursite.yourhost.com,

i noticed an increase in the amount of web-spiders and bots that crawled my page after i purchased a domain name.

Well, search engines crawl your site no matter what the domain.

To get more traffic, I would consider visiting THE Admin Zone and ask any questions.

There are little things you can do to improve traffic, as long as you know SEO.

But, anyone can get traffic, it's about making them guests into members, then making them members stay active...

I'm going to be getting vBSEO soon, as I've heard both success and failure stories. However, I think every little helps and vBSEO seems good.

Regards Jason

Well, my forum is hosted on a domain (one of our admins has a lot of free webspace), and I can't really say how much it has helped.

I'm sure it has played a role in the past, however. It certainly makes it very easy to remember the address of the site, if nothing else.

I am on a forum, and it used to have a host, lets just call it site.host.org

And it changed to a domain like site.com

I saw a great increase in members and bots

Domain names make it easier for your site to be found which will increase activity.

Don't you need to still advertise with domain names though? I've been to a few forums which have domain names and are basically dead, what a waste.

Think they do cause actually members see you are willing to give cash for the forum 😉.

Some of the search engines give better worth for keyword related domain names. I have also heard conflicting talk about having domains with the same area code as the country you are in e.g. .co.uk. If you sell red shoes in the uk, better to be redshoes.co.uk . 🙂

Yes. Before I had a domain, my forum was about dead.
The domain did help me a bit. ~cheesey_grin~ Worth it for the free domain I got with lunarpages, and the one I bought from them.

Yep, domains do help. They make your forum more professional and it shows you care about your forum.

Makes everyone think you care about your forum, (as everyone said)

And also, I believe its easier to get on google yahoo etc.

Yeah search engines do prefer domains like domain.com rather then yourforum.host.com.

I wonder if free domains help as well. I mean, there are people like me who most likely can't afford to pay so much a month and don't have credit cards either.

I just registered and, I think, secured a domain. But I have to wait so long before I can use it.

Domains are quite cheap nowadays, just check 123-reg.. They offer cheap domains, yearly.

Yeah but that is a con as you don't control it properly and they get money out of it and it is much cheaper to buy it else where.
