In your opinion do you think the domain TLD will effect its SEO efforts? For example, if I have a .info domain and someone else has a .com will the .com naturally rank higher?

Yes. It's a hierarchy system.

I searched this some while ago when asking myself the same question.

Theoretically it shouldn't, especially when using global TLD's such as .com, .info, .co etc. The one thing that would (again, theoretically) make a difference is that if you are in the US you are less likely to see a .co.uk result than me, who is in the UK.

I've heard it has next to no effect on search engine rankings.

There is a difference between some TLD's, free TLD's are not looked on as positively as the more standard ones, there is no difference to ranking in a .net and .com. .edu & .gov sites carry more weighting because they are assumed to be a lot more reliable.

Asking the same question, but I think choice of domain has about 20% on SEO. The rest is content itself and the way you optimize your website.

I actually read this before I saw your question yesterday lol.

All he is really doing is calling something different and pointing out the pitfalls.

The point is made that the next Penguin update will be a beast, Google have already missed one PR update in March, because it wasn't ready, what that has done is give you time to get your house in order.

I suspect that Penguin2 will be linked more with Google +, and will include more authorship, in other words they will want to be able to link + to authors, and then once that is done, they can rank the site based on the author as well, which makes it even harder to cheat the SEO, especially if they give it a lot of weighting.
