Do I need a second administrator?

I have a second administrator on my forum now but I'm wondering if I really need him. I think an administrator is someone who should be actively helping the forum grow more than anyone else, but Chorocrazy isn't posting that much. He also hasn't moderated anything all of January. I've been doing all that.

It's not that I hate him, I just don't think he feels obliged to do anything more than a normal member. He checks the forum every day and he replies to some topics I've made (sometimes not to any). I'm trying to get the forum to grow and he's just not helping.

Do I really need him or should I make him a moderator/regular member?

Tell him that he needs to start posting and stuff. Give him like a warning

You shouldn't have to tell staff what to do.

The position they take and its "duties" should be obvious upon promotion to them.

If its not, then give them the boot.

If you demote this person, its best to make them a regular member. Taking someone down from admin and making them a moderator is usually taken as a slap in the face, so they might try to harm the board with what little powers they have left. At least that's what Ive seen. Depends on the person I guess.

Anyway, I have never ran a board solo for any length of time. Having a co-admin is a necessity (for me at least). If I find my self in a situation where my current co-admin left, I would not be in any rush to replace her, I'd take my time and find the right person to help me run my board.

You only have 13,000 posts, there shouldn't be much to do anyway.
There really isn't. And there's not much spam.

As long as there isn't too much to do yet, it shouldn't matter. However, that doesn't mean he shouldn't do his job either. I'd send him a PM asking him why he isn't posting more and if he's still interested in the position.

As for the show the Weakest Link, I don't even know if that's on anymore or not. I'm not huge on watching television anymore, so I don't know for sure period.

Yeah I'd not just boot him without talking to him about the situation first. Careful to keep your words as neutral and non confrontational as possible. You don't want to say something to get him feeling defencive, then you'll get nowhere.

I think I'm good with communication. I messaged him and he said he was expecting that kind of PM. We discussed it and I'm giving his some time to improve.

I was just careful to phrase it not as his problem, but as the forum's problem. I take a neutral stance by saying "I know the forum isn't very active and it's difficult to get activity going. I know other forums may be more promising for you and I don't want to hold you back by forcing you to dedicate more time here..."

That's good to hear. Communication is key to any successful staff team. Good luck! Keep us updated. 🙂
