I used to have Microsoft Office 2007 in my laptop, but in 2012 I bought a new laptop, installed a new Windows OS system, which doesn't support the Office version I used previously. Now I am thinking if I need to buy the Microsoft Office Home from Microsoft website? What do you guys use nowadays for document edition? I sometimes use Zoho application, it's not so perfect though, since they don't have that many functions as Microsoft Office. Please give some recommendation? Thanks.

I'd generally just stay away from microsoft office. I recommend libre office.

Hi, thank you for the recommendation! I just googled 'libre office', then went to their website. Seems it's a software like Microsoft office, shall I install it into my laptop? Or it's possible to use it online?

Hah. I wouldn't touch Microsoft Office with a 10 foot pole. I'd check out Open Office, would definitely recommend it. 🙂

Hi thanks for the recommendation ! I guess nowadays there are certainly some alternative softwares to Microsoft Office, I used to think there isn't anything other than that, hehe.

I just knew kingsoft has dictionary and game, didn't know they have office software as well, thanks for the information!

I am using a sumsung laptop which has windows os attached, thanks for the recommendation though.

🙂

You mean 'Works' is name of the software? Otherwise I don't know how this makes any sense? However, I haven't heard from anywhere there's a software called 'Works'. Thanks for the info though 🙂

I think he might of meant MS Works which is a cheap Office Suite made by Microsoft, and was mostly installed on Dell, HP, and other PC brands to install onto their desktops, and laptops for consumers to use.

I remember my HP Windows Vista desktop computer came with MS Works. It was okay, and good enough for tasks like writing letters, resumes, and cover letters, but did not have all the features of MS Office 2003-2007.

Sadly, it is now discontinued according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_ ... _Processor

But, there is Microsoft 365 which is an online Office Suite you can use by signing into Office 365 with your hotmail.com or outlook.com account on Skydrive which is like Google Doc's but made by Microsoft.

Spot on the nose 🙂
I kept my disc cause it does what I need it to do. Office Suite is too much for me too work with xD

Hi, thanks for the recommendation and information! I checked Office 365, it asked me to sign in with hotmail account, I signed in, then it said there is no office wep app for this account, I am wondering why?

I think Office 365 requires you to pay to use it by buying a license from Microsoft, or the retail box version from a store.

Skydrive at https://skydrive.live.com/ has built-in document creation.

Yes, it does. I think there's some options too to pay yearly(obnoxious, right?).

Have you looked at OpenOffice? We install this on most new/refurb computers we sell. Haven't had any complaints yet!

Ya skydrive has some built in app, but the tools available are not enough. Once I used it to edit a document then print out, the printed content in the papers wouldn't spear as same as that's in the computer.

i love MS Office but have say getting very $$ i now using 2013 version and few changes been made this as for price not sure if keep it as have trail version i had used other free software see if any out there worth switching but look like its no so far.

Try OpenOffice if it's a matter of money. It has most of the same functions, just not as cosmetically appealing.

Just remember to save it in word/excel format.

Thanks for the information. I guess Libre office and open office are quite similar, right? Is the .odt format for these kinds of software?
