Do you think children are brought up cushioned from the real world nowadays? The generation before us were brought up to work and earn but our generation just seems to not want to do anything to help themselves. Where do you think our planet is going if we keep on like this?

We were brought up to work as well, but it doesn't seem like there are any jobs around.

You have a good point.

Jobs are hard to come by thats why my son is doing charity work while looking for a paid job

I'm not exactly talking about chores, but when I graduate I'll have a nice degree that will cost me between $80,000 to $100,000 and few options when it comes to jobs.

I dunno, I think they have different issues to deal with than the generation behind them. Like I know the 70's and 80's generation couldn't have faced this much drama.

I think the past 2-3 generations have had life pretty easy overall. Even the ones considered to be 'suffering' now was the norm over 60 years ago.

I wasn't brought up to work and earn lots of money, atleast not when i was a kid. Kid's should be having fun and enjoy their youth, kids are growing up way to early now days and it's sad really. The childhood i had was great go outside when the sun comes up and come back in when it gets dark had the best time of my life, if and when i have kids they will be able to do the same, none of this iphone crap or computers they will have a real oldschool childhood.

As i got older i noticed how little kids play outside now days, and when i do see some kids playing in the street it makes me feel warm inside knowing some parents still give their kids freedom to be kids.

I have cousins who have been brought up like this so far they are only around 5 and are the best kids.

Unfortunately it will probably get worse, kids will start to lose more and more of their childhood, and it's the best part of their lives makes me pretty sad really...

LOL SO TRUE!!

I think I agree. Parents now-days are way to lenient and give to their kid's demands. More and more kids are spoiled. or maybe it just seems that way to everyone a generation ahead 😛

I think children now have more knowledge regarding technology they have internet and pc games .But i dont think they have as much freedom as when i was a child and back in those days i could get sent out in a morning with a jam sandwich wrapped up and no one would worry if they didnt see me till tea time..Children are not so safe now ..Times have changed but its not all GOOD !!

While the children of today do not have the troubles that the past generations faced, they still do have their own problems to face. Regardless of being "spoiled" by their parents, today's economy is pretty much down at this point of time and work fields are extremely competitive as well. This isn't easy for all those kids and teens as knowledge at this point of time is extremely needed in today's standards.

Even the school work for most kids have risen to quite higher notches and classes itself have become much more competitive from what I have seen.

First of all, when speaking of our generation, don't consider only the people from highly developed countries. There are places where young people have to work hard as hell to even survive. There has been that group of people who have been "spoiled", so to speak, in practically all generations before us as well, but they have never represented the whole generation.

Unemployment is a major problem for our generation, as several have already mentioned. We're in historically unique times, as never before has the world population come this high. The reasons for current high rates of unemployment could include overpopulation, inefficient educational systems, too-rapid improvement of technology(many jobs are being done by machines instead of humans nowadays), corruption, mismanagement, et cetera...

On the other hand, give our generation some credit as well. I think students nowadays are coping fairly well with the explosion of scientific advancements. There's just a lot to learn and school systems are getting more and more extensive. People around Newton's time once thought that integration would only be understood by a handful of people in the world. Nowadays most students taking higher maths in high-school cover at least basics of integration.

I believe so because I see kids that fail school but are not getting in trouble but are just getting iPhones and iPads. Then they are introduced to so much stuff so late in their life and are just protected from the real world to much.

The best way to raise a kid is not to lie and be real with them.
There's no point in telling them that the world is great and dandy. It isn't.

Many people were brought up thinking they would go to school > college > and then get a job.
Ha. If only it were that easy.

I have to agree with this never lie to your children as they will not thank you for it later on
I have always being honest with my children the know it is a hard world out there

I am A student At the moment and i am worried about my future! there are no jobs available. That is why I am trying to be successful with my website to earn and make a living maybe not the best thing to do, but my motto is if there is no work make work!

but i do agree with many points raised this generation is different from the last. we have the internet social networking, forums, online gaming. this all contributes to how this generation is run. most of the people i know play games all the time. I always think why? but then i am on here and that is the same as them.

and if you look at new borns now they are growing up with touch screen and hybrid technologies. just think what their lives will be like. media and the internet changes daily. this improves and damages our lives.

so there is no workaround, parents protecting there children from the world and the technology are all contributors making society worse.

No. Being exposed to the world is good. Knowing that people die, jobs are hard to find etc is better than thinking all is great and then it's like
Surprise!

If there isn't work, make work.
But forums aren't going to pay for a livelihood (this is to noone in specific, just to people who may think it is possible)- there are obviously some exceptions.

I think the best idea is to go freelance, get experience, then tart a business through your contacts and clients.

exactly that is why i have a site not a forum. forums are ok but, you need a lot of people to get a good income. the same goes for sites like mine. I need visitors and people willing to pay for ads to make my living!

It is hard. but if you work damn hard you should get there.

You're grossly overgeneralizing. Not every kid is in the same situation.
