Do most games which run well on a Nvidia card run as well on a similar ATI card which cost almost the same amount of money, and have similar features, same amount of Video RAM, and similar GPU and Memory MHz clock speed?

I use to read that some people say some games are better optimized for Nvidia, or ATI cards, but does this mean ATI cards will be slow when playing games optimized for Nvidia.

Have most PC game makers made their game so it runs well on both Nvidia, and ATI/AMD video cards as long as they have a fast enough GPU clock speed, and enough memory on the video card?

Generally speaking a games developer will specify the minimum and recommended specifications of their titles with both an nVidia and AMD card. In the case of them only stating one or the other, a simple Google search of that card will usually end up showing you other forum posts with people asking to compare them to the opposite brand. Well, from what I've seen.

More often than not, a game will be more optimized for either nVidia or AMD, but it doesn't necessarily mean the game will run poorly on the other type of card. In fact, if you're using a similar spec card then chances are you'll get the same type of performance. I used to have an AMD card which performed exceptionally well with a lot of nVidia-optimized games. THAT SAID, it's also up to nVidia and AMD to support their cards with drivers, so it's quite possible that a game optimized for nVidia could be on equal footing with AMD if the latter choose to support that game and release performance-boosting drivers for it. Also, for what it's worth, I feel nVidia release better and more frequent drivers.

Thanks for the reply. I agree drivers seem to make games faster overtime, and sometimes game developers may release updates for their games to make them run better.
