Have you ever done a post exchange with someone and had that person stay around as an actual member? Have you done this yourself?

1 or 2 have stuck around. I don't think I've ever done that.

I don't do post exchanges because they're from people interested in other promotion forums. It's simply not worth it to me.

Unless each party could provide similar themed, genuine content exchanges ...Personally, I don't think post exchanges are sustainable. It's purely a system where each recipient is looking for gain in their own forum community. Even with signs of initial success, I feel that it dissolves a "genuine" community and becomes a pointless existence for any forum, where a true member base should be achievable.

All the best,
Cal 🙂

I think post exchanges are good for getting your new forum started up, also if you become close to the ones doing the exchanges and become active on their forums, then they will likely do the same for you.

Definitely depends on the forum, niche and the type of person you're doing the exchanges with. I've become active on others forums through exchanges and vice versa. 🙂

I've had a few do so, because they liked my exchange, or they liked me as a person, or both.

Others have simply requested more exchanges with me, and a few others lurked for a bit and then disappeared.

I'd chance it about at 5%. It is a pretty rare shot that posting staff while stick around. A lot of them do it because it is their "job."

I've received some and also stuck around at other sites I've liked. There are actually numerous ones I'd like to continue contributing too but there's only so much time in one day.

In my experience, no. I was a packager for a good year and a half, and I can only remember one or two forums that I ever visited when I wasn't required to. Part of the problem is that a lot of forums are really, really unoriginal, but as QJ says, posting on forums is more of a job than a hobby if you do it a lot.

Personally, no. It depends on the forum. I have seen a lot of forums I'm considering being an actual member of where the first time I discovered it was through doing exchanges. I could see how hard it would be though.

It's really hard for most, myself included. Consistency is key, but if you can't keep up, then it's best to either limit yourself to a specific number of forums to handle at a time or abandon the idea. You've done what you could.

I do this quite a lot, actually
I think I'm addicted to forums 😀
I just can't help it 🙂
I start out doing a posting exchange, and the next thing I know, I'm made like 200 posts 😛

The one time that I actually stuck around a forum and devoted myself to it the owner shut it down after he realized that I wasn't willing to run the forum by myself. It was sad but it was a learning experience. Sometimes I stick around for a little bit after an exchange but often time I don't. I do drop it once and a while but I wouldn't hold myself to stay dedicated to one single forum any more. There are too many awesome places to be. 🙂

Was it ForumConnect? I definitely remember you from there! It had lots of potential to be another solid promotion forum, but I guess not everything is forever.

I'm also the same way about not wanting to just stick to the same forum, unless it's my own. I guess it depends on the content and community that influences my decision to stay.

I haven't had many packagers from requests that I had requested stick around on the forums I needed posts on. It really is one of those things of if the packager had the time, then one might gain a potential active member.

I have done post exchanges with some people and once the job is done they forget about my forum and never had anyone in my forum as actual members.

I've done a fair amount of post exchanges in the past, but sadly they didn't stick around. It's to be expected though. 😛

I have had no luck so far with post exchanges. None of them have stuck around on my forum! 🙂

I didn't have any luck with post exchangers sticking around on my community after the exchange was over. I usually don't stick around on forums unless they run on a forum script that I like or/and the community somehow manages to attract me in some way (e.g. I bond with certain members or they have a chat room where they hang out and know each other in real time etc.).
