Do We Really Need Package Teams? - Debate

Here is why I think like this! If you have a great forum why would you need to pay for someone to come and post for you. It creates a negative result for the forum some of the time with users doing the 10 posts and then leaving never to return. Then you are left with a forum that has ghost accounts. I feel it is better to have active but small community than large and inactive.

If you have a great forum, it's unlikely you'll be requesting a package. Packages are not typically for "great" forums, they are for small forums.

By 'pay' you mean paying in FP$, which is free, so you're not paying anything.

If you want a small active community then simply don't request a package. Not everyone wants what you want.

True, however, the role of the package team is to post on other forums... I know they do other things but its primary role is to fill out content. This is great for forums first starting but why does there have to be a staff role dedicated to it? why can't it just be an exchange thing just like design has become and reviews are going to become.

If you want some clear answers to my view read @Aries post on the first page he hits the nail on the head with this.

The thing is, that's the promotion forum model. You provide services with dedicated teams such as packages and reviews. While FP's review service allows for community reviews as well, the option you are suggesting for community exchanges/packages already exists as well, through the exchange section. This is pretty much the model for promotion forums. They have various services which can benefit other's communities.

The alternative is general webmaster forums (ie. TAZ). These often still have place to plug your site and sometimes get exchanges, but they don't offer the services such as packages and reviews.

Why does there have to be staff? Well what incentive is there for normal users to post on other people's forums? You need to realise that many of the people you interact with here are administrators of their own forums. Why would they want to spend time on someone else's forum whilst their one is struggling? The role of the package team is to provide that boost, albeit small. You would be naive to think that promotion forums are where you gain members for your own forums.
