Do you allow cursing on your forum/website? What words do you typically allow?

On my website, I would always block out the F word just because it's very vulgar. I did not mind most other words, though.

Anything not derogatory.
This.

I really don't care if you want to be vulgar. It doesn't bother me whatsoever. However, some words that are fairly derogatory have literally no benefit whatsoever.

I don't use a lot of curse words in my normal speaking out in the real world or online so it really makes no difference to me if a forum has profanity filters in place. I will say, if I were to run a forum, I would not implement a profanity filter. Its silly, they are just words. If a bad word on the internet offends you, then you don't belong on the internet. Go back to watching TV & reading books or something.

I may have mention some vulgar words before on my forum but that's like once or twice and wasn't aimed at the members. I tend to have nothing like that at all. Yes there isn't an big rule about for the members but really it's common since. If they start disrespecting the members then they are gone

I use a filter. I didnt have any members who would actually try to overule the filter 😀

As I am used to swearing in real life, I have no problem allowing it on my forum. Just so long as it doesn't occur in a way that I or my staff find highly offensive or used in the form of name calling, it's fine. I used to have a huge thing for swearing on forums in the past but as I got older I just started thinking what the heck...just go along with it! Even if swear on my own forum occasionally but I keep it as minimal as possible. However I do not swear in real life except when I'm totally by myself

I'd rather not because it's unprofessional and it exposes kids to such language. However, a website specifically barring kids should be free to have such language.

Your forum must have age restrictions then?

isn't good for younger people to learn the wrong words

Not really. I mean we don't allow pornographic images or anything illegal. I might disable cussing in the future though

I do it. I don't mind it. Yet my forum is geared towards the average male gamer in their 15-30s.

I don't see any reason not to allow cussing on forums. Mostly everyone on a forum should be at least thirteen years old, and PG-13 movies have cussing.

Children tend to be far more troublesome than their content is worth, so I don't see any point in pandering to that market.

As long as it is in context to what thread it is in, but harsher words i won't allow it

I tend to use the Filter options on some curse words such as racial/offensive slurs. Anything that's against humanity.

I allow most curse words to be used on my board, but I won't permit such words to be used in considerable excess in a short span or single post, and like with any negative word, used in a way that's hostile to another member.

We have an infraction for excessive profanities. The odd f-bomb here and there is okay. It's when someone is putting them in every post, or every sentence of a post, that it becomes an issue.

Because I hate the c-word the most, I replaced it with "carrot" using the filter. It was hilarious when a couple of trolls realised what happened. Otherwise, we haven't filtered anything. Our members are mostly adults and if they choose to cross the line by using bigoted slurs or the like, there are consequences. Definitely not filtering those out.
