Do you allow members to flame other members on your forum? If so, how far do you let it go?

Nope, nerver. Even if it's a topical discussion there's always been a standinfg rule about respecting each other's differing opinion no matter how much you might disagree with them.

On Christianity Haven, we allow flaming of beliefs, but not of the person.

Examples:
Well, that's stupid. (Acceptable)

Are you really that stupid? (Unacceptable since it addresses the person and not the belief or idea).

I feel like that's okay. If someone doesn't agree on a idea, it's fine to call the idea stupid as long as it's not actually harming others. Flaming against other people or a group of people isn't okay in my book.

In the distant past, I was a member of some forums that were essentially unmoderated. Whether or not that works depends entirely on the people who make up your forum's community.

I never allowed it on my forums, and I can't think of any communities that I've been a part of that have allowed it. Even though we're all in different parts of the world interacting through the wonderful world of the internet, everyone still deserves to be respected. Friendly joking around was always one thing, but whenever it crossed the line was when mods would step in.

I never allow flaming on my forums, no. Some people will flame others and often call it banter, but you never know when it could offend someone, even if it is just bante,r so I never allow it.

Flaming and name-calling IMO is abuse. I have rules against it. I'll ask them to stop and whoever continues will get banned.

It's easy to show respect on a forum.

Nope, in my experience it errodes the community and causes negative feelings. Our lives are complicated enough, I like my members to always feel welcome and happy in my forums.
