Members on BAF are allowed to edit their post for about six hours after they are made. After that time they have to ask an Admin or Mod if they want to make any changes. There are two reasons for this restriction;

  1. It prevents spammers for making posts and then going back to them in say a month's time and adding links to Viagra sites, etc.
  2. It prevents a disgruntled member from removing or defacing previous content that they have contributed to the forum. This would probably happen extremely rarely if at all in reality, however I'd prefer avoid the situation.
Do you allow your members to edit their own posts?

I prefer allowing members to edit their posts. But it would be nice if setting can be like this:

*allowing members to edit their own topics anytime.
*allowing members to edit their posts in regular forum sections+disallow editing in important sections.
*allowing members to edit their topic and post both in any section for 5minutes time period.

I allow them to edit posts, yes. 🙂 I hate when I go to forums and I accidentally make a spelling error or screw up a link or something and the administrator has it so I can't change it.

Yes I do,

If they mess something up and need to fix it then they should be allowed to. I don't think they shouldn't be able to edit their posts.

I allow members to edit there posts, I don't have any restrictions on it.

i also let members freely edit posts but if they did spam id warn them then if they do it again id ban them. lol

Yes, I allow my fellow members to edit their posts. I think they all deserve the right to fix up anything they may have messed up in their original posts.

In other forums (in which I wasn't a member of the staff), I always was glad that there was an option to edit your posts, so I'm definitely letting the members of my forum have the same option as well.

Thanks everyone for your replies. There is obviously a strong consensus towards letting members edit their posts.

...prevents spammers for making posts and then going back to them in say a month's time and adding links to Viagra sites, etc.

How do you deal with that, or is it an issue for your at all?

Well once on my old forums that are now closed down there was a member that kept spamming drugs pills etc so i deleted the posts and emailed him a warning he kept on spamming so i banned his ip and email address and deleted his account , next day it seems he was back with a new ip and email ,spamming again so i emailed him with the the words "fbi" & "cia" a person on freenode advised me to do this 😛 and i never seen him again lol.

I allow members to edit their own posts, however when they do so a note is automatically added to the end of their post saying they've done so.
