Do you allow multiple accounts?

Why/ why not? I don’t encourage it. Proboards doesn’t have the option to merge accounts unfortunately. I don’t like inflating my member numbers artificially.

What are your feelings towards this? Do you yourself allow it on your forum?
 
Rules state that only one account per person is allowed 🙂 I mean it makes sense anyway as they can't use both at the same time and will look so weird if they do as you can tall how they type and answer anyway. At the end of the day doesn't really want 500 unused accounts. With IPB at least if that is the case I can merge accounts together 🙂 I have done it so many times over and over.

But if there is a ligament reason to why..?, it might have to be done then maybe it be one-off, Yet again as an owner and other owners we have made many accounts on our own forums haven't we.
 
I only allow one account unless it's corporate in which case I do allow individuals within the company to hold a less formal account should they wish.

I like my forum members to know who they are interacting with and anyone posting on more than one account tends to cause confusion.
 
No I prefer they have one account.

However, in some cases, they may have two. On one forum, I allow companies to join. They can have a company account and a representative of that company can also have their own account even if they manage both.

I wish their was a good company membership registration addon for XenForo.

IMO the only time it's acceptable to allow members to have multiple accounts is for a roleplaying forum. I don't allow multiple accounts on my forum, there's no need to have more than one account on a gaming forum IMO.
 
The only person who can have multiple accounts on my forums is me, and myself. When I create a forum, I need some posts before launching it publicly. Therefore, I create a couple of accounts and start posting, sometimes even interacting. However, once I have some members posting regularly, my multiple accounts will go dormant.
 
I have never encouraged multiple accounts as I have never seen a reason for it. I believe if you already have an account on a forum then that is more than enough as you will be active on that account. Having another account on a forum only means you are doubling up on posting and it never made any sense to me as to why it would be a good idea for anyone to have two accounts.
 
I do not allow it, as there is no use for it on a resource board, I think. If people were to create multiple accounts they would probably only do so for malicious intent.
 
On my new forum I'm not too bothered. I mean if it was excessive I would do something but I want the forum to be relaxed as much as it can be.
