Do you allow your members to complain about you openly on your forum?

Most forum owners don't. But I knew this guy, who was from Wales, operating an anime forum and selling scanlations for manga which are illegal because they violate the copyright. If he didn't like a thread or a discussion. He'd locked it up or make it disappear. It was okay for him to dog you and call you names. But if you pissed him off. He'd write you up or make a big fuss about an opinion you made in a thread. He was very controlling and people went so far to call him out as an authoritarian. He hated that and denied it. When you have 4 or more different people telling you that you're doing something wrong. They're normally right.

People complained about him in a thread saying that he couldn't take criticism, that he was easily offended, and that he read too deeply into things. One of his staff members stepped in and threatened to lock up the thread and told everyone to get along. Well. Everyone was trying to get along. Kind of hard when you have someone who has no business being an owner of their own forum because they're so damn toxic and anti social with people. You have to watch what you say because the owner and his pet staff member was very strict. I honestly don't think they cared much for Americans because they always slammed my country and I felt picked on as a result.

I haven’t had complaints openly. To me, if there is a problem from an owner as well as a member’s standpoint, do it privately. Between the TWO parties. Try to resolve it & work it out. Only IF it cannot be resolved, do you get others involved. Also finish what you started. Don’t leave it hanging. Sometimes it is simple miscommunication.

Always been a big believer in transparency and I have no issues with members raising a complaint about me or my team publicly or privately or with seniors. Ultimately a members experience is what matters, and if they think a complaint is needed to action something to make their experience better, I'm all for trying to make that work.

I do however think a certain procedure or mannerism has to be followed though to avoid worsening any potential problem.

No idea if you even had complaints, I mean most of you will say nope but think about it. a complaint means they can also go behind your back and complained about you to other people and you are not going to be aware of it. FP has a list of complaints from each other and it's not shared out to the people.

But as an owner and staff, you do get complaints from people talking about another member. I did have a couple of members complained about one of my staff member years back regards Discord and this and that, won't get into it but it was resolved and was not a big fuss

On Christianity Haven there have been some members who complain when they receive a warning or told to stop flaming. They don't accept personal responsibility for their actions so blame me instead. There have been times when I allow their posts to remain because it proves that I was correct in giving the warning and their own hysteria makes them look the fool.

If the owner is that toxic, then why don't you just stop going to that forum? The people that enjoyed the forum could go somewhere else or create their own forum where they didn't have to deal with such toxicity.
