Do you have a "Member of the Month" award on your forum? If so, how do you go about deciding who gets to be the lucky winner? Do you let members vote on it or does the staff get to choose? What does the member win if they get "Member of the Month"?
I've never did this but I thought about it. I think it is a great way to encourage members to post, etc, and it makes them feel appreciated for all of their hard work. 🙂
I used to have one of these on my own forum. I think it's a pretty good way for a small forum to generate activity, but I wouldn't recommend it for a larger forum, as people might get upset for not being chosen, so it would likely be more trouble than it would be worth.
We did used to, but decided to remove it because some members were trying too hard to earn the title. Also, we would get jealous members who didn't quite make the mark. It lasted for a long while, and you could earn double forum currency during the time. Thing is, it wasn't for a entire month, only a week. Pretty similar idea, though. 😛
Eh, I think it's kinda weird. I see the benefits but I think giving awards to members might make other members feel left out in a way, smaller forums for sure, but medium sized forums it probably would not be the best idea to do this. 😛
We do MOTM every month. The winner gets a trophy/award to keep forever (shown on their profile) also they get to be gold for the month (gold username and rank banner).
Everyone is a good sport about it and it's a fun little activity. Our members seem to enjoy it.
We do have a MOTM award. Staff vote on the recipients privately and whoever has the most votes win. If they win they get a mention in our monthly newsletter but more prizes might be given later on, it's not really a big thing right now.
We do it every month, or try to at least. It's nominations by members, then voted by members. Though I do like the nominations by members and vote by staff, so who knows what the future will hold.
I just started doing this. Also do site of the month. I let members nominate people and then vote. And they get a special user group title saying they won. And for site get their link displayed on the main page.
I have never actually done this before, however I may have to do so sometime in the future. 🙂 Though I like to recognize all my fellow members, still I think it'll help with forum activity if everyone participates.
We have both a Member of the Month and staff of the month. Both users get a special spot on the side bar in the forum page. Going to work out something to go with our website and our social media pages as well to recognize our Members and Staff of the month!
