I just thought about this and was wondering what everyone's opinion is on the matter. Do you delete member accounts? Do you delete one that have never been active? ...or do you delete accounts regardless of how many post counts they have if they become inactive? I've seen a forum in the past where the administrator was crazy strict that if you aren't active for let's say a month even if you've contributed like 300 posts in the forum she deactivated your account. I don't know if she was just attempting reverse psychology or what.

If an account has not been logged into in over a year, and there have never been any posts made on that account, then I'll delete it.

Well if they haven't made any posts in over a year then yes because even though some people may be inactive, they still have made a contribution to the forum and know they still have there place on the forum, if they do posts. But people who haven't made posts are just a waste of a member. If they want to make a new account, then let them join. They still have the chance of contribution to the forum.

Eh. Yeah, I'll delete members who haven't posted over a year, but only if they have 0 posts. Otherwise... you're just getting rid of potential posts. What if they come back?

They can make a new account and post, then there account won't be deleted would it? But I would make this rule clear in the guidelines.

I never delete members even if they are inactive, like Cierra said there is a chance they will come back.

No. You never know when they could come back and want their account again. It just avoids problems to leave them. And by using ZetaBoards, I have no need to clear up database space or make more room as that's not my issue.

It's best not to, as it could cause problems in the future. Just leave them as is, they're not doing any harm. 😛

Definitely not, peoples circumstances are continually changing, lifestyle, children, job changes, health, and the list goes on. So there could be a very valid reason for it.

I don't think there's ever a reason to delete an account, whether it's inactive, or a trouble user. All it really does is make the forum look messier, by having avatars disappear and whatnot. 😛

I have done this in the past, but I stopped because it's pointless and doesn't really make things any easier on the server.

I like neatness, and if that person never logged in for many months, then I'll delete the profile. If you wanted to be a part of my community, you would've shown more effort than merely registering.

Lurkers, on the other hand, are never tampered with. They'll eventually post something.

I will do if they have never logged a post and the account is over a year old, I very rarely do it though and it is normally just a method of freeing up a little bit of space on my sever and making the member stats look more inline with the posts and threads.

Only accounts I've ever deleted are those that never actually activated their account (I have email activation on for my forums), but even then I'd let them sit a couple months at least, likely more.

Do you classify "lurkers" are those that have posted something before but hasn't posted in a while? ...or do you mean you keep registered members so as long as they at least log in once and a while?

No, I do not prune inactive accounts. A user is the only one who can choose to have their account deleted, and they must do so through the UCP themselves.

I don't delete accounts unless they arebspam accounts. Deleting accounts with posts can easily mess up the thread, make the forum look tacky and inactive. Plus there's no point in doing it, they could come back..

My definition of a lurker is someone who has registered, but either hardly or never contributed. I only delete profiles that haven't been used at all since completing the registration process -- if you joined without any intention of contributing or at least checking back at some point, then there's almost no likelihood that you'll be coming back voluntarily.

Also, if someone finds out that their profile was deleted, then it's up to them on whether or not they really want to be a part of the community for real. It's not really a big deal to register again.

Quality over quantity.

I would never delete members. You really never know when one of them are going to come back and find that they can't log in to their account anymore.
