That running a forum is totally worthless, and in the end that owning the forum was just a total waste of your time? I've been getting like that lately, especially because my own has been very inactive as of late. I get discouraged really easily...

Yeah, I also sometimes get that awful feeling when my forum isn't doing well or I get bored.

This happens a lot of times. Especially when I'm deep into some coding work and such with 20 tabs open and then I just say in my mind "why did I ever start this".

Perhaps you are finding out forum running isn't all that it was cracked up to be? I wouldn't know for sure but I lost interest in it for sometime myself. These days, I just throw the random post down here and there but lost interest in it lately. Forums these days just come off as boring to me. Oh well...

Well, if you get that feel often, then Foruming isn't the right choice for you. 😛

Every forim owner may get like this at some point even I do sonetimes, Stay Dedicated And you will reach success 😉

Sometimes, but I enjoy running one even if it is inactive.
Same here.
Sometimes I step back and think: "You know, it doesn't even matter a little bit"
But then I step forward and remember that I love the internet and all the forums I post around on, so I just keep on keepin on 😛

I never feel that owning my forum is worthless because it isn't, all the forum owners we have helped is what makes it worth carrying on. The satisfaction of heling others and spreading your knowledge to other people cannot be beat 🙂 It's grade A e-sheen.

Sometimes I want to punch people though.

I think if you get that feeling, it's time to pack up and take a holiday. That way you will be doing yourself a favor and also doing your forum community a favor.

I seriously doubt if any forum can survive if the owner has lost interest in it.

Why? Forum owners lose interest all the time, but that's the point where you just have to re-motivate yourself and your users! If you get to that point and just give up, that's when it's time to pack up 😉

I wouldnt say that owning a forum is a waste of time. I work on my forum in my free time when I have nothing better to do. If I wasnt "wasting" that time on forums, I'd be "wasting" it on watching tv or whatever else. 😛

I have recently have been abit upset at the state of my forum. activity was usually high during weekdays usually 240-400 posts per day but since late sept its gone down and the forum has never been the same. I mean today its 76 posts only . its a biog drop. what i need is new users to make things interesting again so I am going to advertise as much as possible.

As everyone else has said, it's a feeling that you get. Just gotta keep your head up 🙂

Let me ask you this, why are you a staff on another forum? If you own a forum and are on staff like this site, you are likely giving more time to the sites you are staff on. I find this very common that many who own boards are staff on avg. about two other sites. Howe can you really dedicate your time to growth of your own site?

I know there are benefits to being on a team, you learn, get free services etc. I for one think some are better suited to be on a team vice running one.

Your thoughts are not unwarranted, I do not think you should quit. You may need to assess what you want to do. Do you want to be on the team here or do you want to get your site going...? Both have rewards and offer interaction with others, so you have to decide.

If you want to do both then you may need to adjust your distribution of time to each.

It takes a long time getting a forum going. Just need to pull through and stay dedicated.

I used to, but this one I have worked on for a month before opening. I think it is the part of paying out for something that is not getting the activity in return that does it.
