Do You Ever Start Debates?

Sometimes forum debate topics can really get members actively participating on the forum. 🙂

As a forum owner, do you ever initiate these sorts of topics or do you let others make them?

Is there some topics you won't allow to be discussed as a debate?

I'm so bad at starting debates, I just reply to them if I see fit or just don't bother with them. Debates can be started up on any subject and so I do not have a debate board for debates, but if members wanted to start a debate they can still 🙂

If they get out of hands, hasn't been one yet then the topic will be stopped.

I start debates on topics I know I'll win 😉

I don't think I do so just for the sake of doing so - at least, that often. But I do say things which are controversial, and debates will start because of that. My News, Religion, and Politics forums are opt-in for that reason.

I used to do that lot. Now stopped mainly because I lost interest in generating content that way. It sometimes goes out of hand. I like discussions, not debates. Debates are a moderator's nightmare, especially when some members try to overrule others.

As well as allowing you to see who is a troll and who isn't. Just start a religious topic and sit back.

Yes. Debates and Political views or sensitive matters like religion are fine. It’s not fine once multiple people start to become offended or comments are made that are deemed illegal from the originating webmasters location

Currently, I am allowing only discussion and informtion sharing, I am not yet opening debates.
