Detective mode activated 😎. Most times it is just transparent and plainly seen, perhaps the person is impersonating another. Or they have no pure intentions for joining.
When you pay enough attention to their activities, their interactions (sending unsolicited DMs to members) you will definitely be able to weed such ones out.

I have had that feeling a few times just recently and in some cases, it does prove that my instincts were right and they were indeed not legit.
One thing I have learned is no matter how they are online, most of the time they can put on a show to get the trust they long for before you realize it.

There was a member like that on a forum that I modded on whose posts and responses were very similar to another person's posts that I knew for years on another forum. They lied about it of course. I'm unconvinced. I still think it's them.
For me it depends on the member I think they may be. If its something extremely in the past, or they're someone who just clashed with previous staff then I may let it go. If its a serial ban evader or someone causing harm with the new account like ban evading or cheating competitions, then I'll typically investigate.
