Do you have a set post count on your forum before other areas will open up to members?

Some forums I have been a member of in the past have had their forums set up so that you would need a certain amount of posts before other areas of the forum will become available to you and you will gain the privileges to be able to post in the forum once you reach the required post count.

I myself haven't done this on my forums as I would much rather allow access to all forums unless they were locked due to say adult related reasons.

Have you ever or do you have a set post count amount on your forum for your members before other areas will open up to them? Does it work well for you?

Never really cared for this type of thing. The only forums members can't see are the VIP and staff forums.

Most of my areas are open 🙂 other than Paid VIP group based, then again on my side of my forum where they have to make more than five posts to able to become a full member, simple though.

I haven’t done it on mine. I have had some boards that I made password protected. All the member has to do is message me for the password. But to have X amount of post counts in certain areas, I don’t bother with.

I have never done that in my forums and I do not like this feature on forums. If there is this feature, I might even leave the forum (unless I am being paid for my activity)

I've done it before, and it was okay - just ended up being another spammy area though lol.

Yes, I do this. The more someone posts, the more access they get. I don't want someone to join and then think they can look at everything without posting once. It is also a good way to keep new members from seeing adult content. They have to be mature enough to make good posts before they can access. I will always do this.

Social Hideouts has a subcategory called The Hidden Grove that is open to members if they reach the highest rank.
However, guests and members can see everything else.

I do not, because I think if I did this for let's say the resources section of my board it would create a lot of spam and irrelevant posts. I just make it so that guests cannot view the resources and they have to register to be able to see them. I know this doesn't help out posting activity whatsoever, but I'd rather have little post activity than low-quality posts.

I have never experienced this with any forum. All the forums I have worked on, one is free to post anywhere on the forum. I don't think it is a good thing as you might make the user lose interest quickly.

No, I do not. All of my forums are accessible to every single member and guest. I don’t have any forums that are unlocked when you reach a certain post count.

For my current forum I have a levels system where when they reach a certain milestone they can access a lounge for that level. Currently it's:

100 posts
250 posts
500 posts
1000 posts

I did many years ago when that was a popular thing to do.

Nowadays, I think it can kill your forum. I call this a "pay gate" in marketing. Now it may not be so much a pay gate in this instance but its kind of is where the payment is making posts.

Most of time, people on a forum want free access. To become a member, register and go through all that, they typically expect instant access.

Not giving it to them IMO is telling them to buzz off.

If I personally joined a forum and it was setup like this, I'd likely log out and not come back because there are other forums out there that won't require that.

I currently do not have this set up on any of my forums. I like the idea though! I've only been on two forums that have done this.

I opened my forum for registration with just 10 topics, and zero replies

No, but I have a forum/website advertisement section that's available upon signup, but the member must ensure that they have 50 posts in order to post their advertisement there.

Well I said I didn't have a setup like this back in January but now I do for RPG Haven! Think of it like you're leveling up like in a roleplaying game, that's why I decided to give this a shot on this forum.

I don't have any forums restricted based on the amount of posts by a member on my forum.

I used to have that set post count for new members to access some restricted areas on the forum. But it was counter productive. It made new members lose interest in being active. And I had to do away with that.
