Why or why not? I have it enabled on my forum. I do wish Proboards was like others where the person got a notification & even sets it up in its own thread. I mostly say Good Morning & Good Night so that people know the forum is active. I do have a few people I talk to on it every so often.

I used to. I think profile updates are good enough. The shoutbox/chatbox from what I remember really took away from the forum's main feature, the actual forum.

I think you should ultimately decide, would you rather have a chat or a forum? Either is fine but they don't go together in all honesty!

I don't think my forum needs a shoutbox, I feel that it takes away activity from the forum itself. Especially this is the case if it's a general discussion forum.

I have had them in the past and while I think they might add some value for certain niches, in general I do rather think they are not conducive to what forums do best which is to encourage rich content.

Yes, although for me it's on the footer on the website (a link to it, that is) and it isn't really shown elsewhere or "above" the forum like many others have it. Really just used for side discussions or discussions that wouldn't require a PM/thread.

In my opinion shoutbox should be only on Blog sites, and sites like that, not on Forums, because you are distracting members from posting and engaging with each other.Maybe shoutbox will be helpful for forum staff team to communicate over it.

I have one. Doesn't hurt forum activity one bit. Members spend way more time in the forums posting, they just stop by the shoutbox to say "Hi" to one another or some random chit-chat. It gives members another place to interact with each other which is always a good thing. Makes for a more cohesive tight-knit community.

that's al they do is say hi a bye LOL

What is shotbox I ve never heard
A shoutbox is a chat section on some forums. It's real-time talking. I mainly use it to say Hi & Bye. I feel it helps people know that my forum is active & that I'm around.

I don't have shoutbox on my forum, I have never felt that I need a shoutbox. Some of the forums I visit have shoutbox and it looks nice, though.

I do not see the point or worth having it 😉 I mean isn't like the site is big anyway and it does take up page size unless you go on another own page itself. I rather have more free work else where then having to deal with a box of words ;P

I see this on many forums but I dont see the appeal and have tried it on my forum but no one uses it.. On my own forum, I have a Shoutbox thread so all replies go.forward .the post count for.the forum.

Interesting! Is the Shoutbox Thread tied into the Shoutbox? I know of some Xenforo forums that tie it in.
