So on a few forums I've seen the use of Super Moderators or Semi Administrators who have some administrative powers and manage the moderation groups.
Do you think this concept works? To have more than one group with ACP power and managing the Global Moderators or do you have Team Leaders and Administrators seperate?
TLs do have a few features which are kind of ACP functions. Basically, the stuff that any phpBB forum has in the UCP for team leaders. But generally, other than basic group management features, there's nothing in the ACP which is typically needed by non-admins on any forum software, at least that I know of.
I've never given any moderators ACP access, even in a limited form. I like to keep the admin directory as hidden and locked down as possible, and I don't think it's really necessary for a moderation job.
However, I think there is something to be said for rewarding long time moderators with higher level access and more powers, but I think they should stay in the MCP.
I've done both in the past. I like to have the "global mod" rank there as they can take some of the burden off of the admin(s) as well as be somebody for the mods to talk to if the mods have a problem with something the admin is doing and don't want to bring it up directly to the admin as they don't want the admin to know who it was who complained. I've always respected that and have been okay if a global mod comes to me with a complaint about something from a mod without knowing who it was.
I think it's best if Mods stick with only mod abilities, and Admins stick with their permissions. You can give an admin limited powers if that helps. That would work out much better.
So, no, we don't have any 'advanced mods' whom possess admin capabilities. 😛
I have a "Supervisory Moderator" that supervises the activity and manages the moderation staff and works with the admins to keep coming up ideas for the team and overall ideas for the forum. It's like a "administrator intern" type of thing.
