I was a teenager in the 80s and LOVED that time period! The music was incredible with many different genres to satisfy all listening needs. The Cold War was frightening for the younger crowd and movies like War Games and Red Dawn fueled that fear even more. We didn't have cell phones! I would hop on my bike and ride to places I shouldn't have with friends and my mom really never knew where I was.

Do you have questions about the 80s from someone who's lived it?

What were the coolest things to own as a teenager in the 80s? I was born in 84 so I was just a little kid for that time period.

Boomboxes were the ultimate device for teenagers to own! The bigger, the better!

10 speed bikes were common, but I had a 12 speed (Huffy?) which got a lot of miles around town. I remember racing some college guy one time when I was on the way to my friend's house, and we were neck and neck for the longest time. He was impressed and I probably should have realized then how much I loved cycling.

Cabbage Patch Kids were the rage for younger kids, but some teenagers, like me, owned one too! I mean, c'mon, they were popular.

I owned leg warmers but didn't wear them too often. Too warm and they kept falling down.

The Rubiks cube was amazing and I bought a book to learn how to solve it...and it worked!

Bracelets: coil, plastic, friendship, charm...all kinds of bracelets were what girls wore.

Men wore the Italian horn on a chain.

That's really cool. Thank you! I missed out on that time period by just a bit, so it's interesting to hear.

Did you have a walkman? Also did you try New Coke and if so did you like it? I didn't know this until now, but New Coke was around until 2002. I don't think I ever tried it though... Also did you or your parents own a CD player?

YES! I had a Walkman!! It wasn't anything extraordinary though and I think I got in on the trend toward the end because they were expensive when they first came out. Almost everyone belonged to Columbia House to get their cassettes!! http://www.liketotally80s.com/2014/10/columbia-house/

I tried the New Coke and did not like it, but I don't remember much about why I didn't like it. I was glad when Classic Coke came back.

My parents did not own a CD player and I probably didn't get a portable CD player until the late 80s.

Being a teenager in the 80's was amazing, something I miss every day.

Were you ever into the rollerskating scene or the dance clubs for the under 21 crowds?

In my early teens is was roller skating thinking I was the greatest. When I got older and was driving, I would do the under 21 clubs on the Jersey shore as midnight bowling. Which one did you do?

I was too poor to do either 🙁 Plus, my mom wouldn't drive us to either, so we were stuck at home.

Oh, we weren't well off as well, but older brother and friends parents helped out. I was working at 11 so had money saved when I got driver license.

I started babysitting when I was 14 making 50 cents an hour. It was probably a quarter for the first time, but after that was 50 cents and then it moved up to a dollar an hour. I'd watch the baby for 12 hours and make $12. The girls on the rich side of town made $5 an hour and I felt defeated.

What was American life like in the 80s under Ronald Reagan?

What was your favorite music video? And who was your all time favorite band and favorite song?

What I remember the most is when Reagan helped to end the Cold War with the USSR. Prior to that, I was terrified that they would nuke us 🙁

What was your favorite music video? And who was your all time favorite band and favorite song?

My favorite music video... oh there were so many. Fish Heads was hilarious, so that's probably top of the list. But I think I really liked Addicted to Love.
