Why/ why not?
I have PMs turned on & have it set to get an email notification in case I don’t log on to the forum too often as I'm on many forums, I don't want to miss a message.
What about you?
Always on, I never have them off. in fact you can't even turn them off anyway. The settings allow you to select what groups can use what on your Forums. I do have emails get sent when I get PMs, then again I do not check my emails that often 😛
Always on. If I don't want to hear from a particular person I'll just block them from PM'ing me if the board offers the option (which they generally do).
I don't turn off PM. I don't see a need to do that. I use a separate email, different from my main email, for forums and even if my PM is spammed, I don't care.
They're on and I allow charter/premium to use the upload in PM feature.
I really don't try to police PMs.
Some people worry about illegal activities going on in them? If so, I think instead of questioning PM, you should question what kind of people you're promoting your community to.
I always have my PMs turned on. Every forum I register to I ensure they stay enabled and I also have email notifications when I get a new PM so that I do not miss PMs if I do not visit the site to often. The only time I will disable PMs is if the PM system seems to be abused and I get spammed constantly with PMs that are not that important, that doesn't happen too often though so I tend to keep many places enabled.
I keep my PM's turned on. I don't see a point in turning them off either on my own site or any other site. It's a convenient way for someone to get in touch with me if they really need to. I don't see the harm in keeping PM's turned on tbh. Hell, i met my better half through a PM. 😛
