I noticed on some forums they choose not to display stats such as total posts.

Do you hide these stats on your community? What are the benefits of hiding/showing forum stats?

No and I would personally never join a forum that hides its members/posts from the community.
Reddit and quora hides their stats from the public. You don’t see how many topics nor posts any given subbredit has.

However, they do display how many members it has.

Reddit is a forum as well. Are you a member there?

I have never hidden forum stats from members or guests, and couldn't see any benefit for doing so. I guess those who do have their reason,s and it is personal preference based on your forum and how you wish to run things.

I don't like hiding stats from members so I never do this. I'm not really a fan when other forums do this as well, but it's not a deal breaker for me if I like a forum I'll still join it. Reddit is a bit more chaotic than a normal traditional forum so it makes a bit more sense to hide this information especially when lots of duplicate threads are posted there.

I've never done it, and I don't really see a point in doing so. That said, it wouldn't bother me if I were on a site that did do it. It's not something I ever did on my own sites (nor something I would do if I were to ever run one again in the future), but to each their own. It's a bummer not being able to see them, sure, but it's not a dealbreaker.

To use Reddit as an example since they're a well-known site that doesn't display stats, it's easy to see if a subreddit is active or not by just looking at it. Even though they don't show total posts or threads, they do show members, and you can see the most recent posts in the community and how old they are. Not being able to see total posts or threads hasn't been a dealbreaker for me using Reddit though, just how active the particular community I'm looking at is.

I don't think it's neccesary to hide the forum stats from members or guest.

No, I don't. It does not matter whether my stats are great or not, I like to show them.

I don't.

The main reason? I doubt they're looking at them...

The only ones really looking at them are YOU and your competition. That's the only people interested in them.

When I go to potentially join a new forum, even as a forum admin for 20+ years, I don't scroll down to see how many posts and members the forum has. I go to the main niche boards and start skimming through the content. I'm looking for useful posts, friendly members, and a lack of AI-generated BS users.

If I can't find that, I don't join. Your metrics are the least of my concern.

Displaying the statistics may provide an overview of the community size and/or activity, so, I don't concealing the stats in my forum.
