Keeping a detailed account of one’s life–whether the writing is meant for the writer’s eyes only, posted on a blog for all to see, or shared with a select few–is a common practice. Do you take part in it? Do you write for an audience or just yourself? Why? Have you become more–or less–active in chronicling your life and times as you get older?

In middle school when I was going through a lot of events I needed to talk everything out and without access to the internet all the time I had a journal/diary. I wrote to it thinking people would eventually read it or something. I feel like that helped me.

I had a Xanga where I shared a lot of events, but I still feel like I hid some things, I never went in too many details.

As I got older I quit writing as much, maybe it is because I had less events to write about. From time to time I feel like writing though, but rarely do it.

I've never had a public blog or journal, my thoughts have never been appropriate enough for anyone else to see. (I don't mean inappropriate as in dirty, I just mean I've had some not so nice thoughts)

I currently do keep a journal/diary on my computer in note-pads, though I don't write in them as frequently as I want.

I've never had anything because really I'd have too much to write, I also struggle with writing because of wrist problems. The only think I have is a word document to keep my passwords in. 😛

With me, depending on how much time I have to write, I will either use a pen or pencil and take my time, or I will use the computer to write an entry that I can print off.

I usually just write it on my phone. But sometimes I write when I see pen and paper nearby. And maybe just stick it somewhere. 😀

That is not advisable. If your phone gets stolen, someone will be able to read that. In the event you put personal information down, you just gave it to them.

Touche. I might have to reconcile. Thanks. 😀

You're welcome. 🙂 If I may make a suggestion, use a Notepad or Wordpad document on your computer. Create a folder called "Journal" and save each new entry in that folder. 🙂

I'll look into that. Thanks for the suggestion. 😀

It is good to just blurt out your thoughts and do a massive "brain dump" these days though I just talk to SIRI on my phone, or my misses XD

there are just so many ways!

I kept a diary that I rarely ever used in middle~high school. However, I stopped writing in it when my mother discovered & read it. Real embarrassing considering the majority of what I wrote had to do with a boy I had a crush on for years. Nowadays, I just keep a dream journal.

Dream journal? How does that work?

I keep a journal in my nightstand at all times. If I remember my dream when I wake up, I instantly grab it and write down everything that I can remember as quickly as I can before it fades away. Sometimes I'll have more vivid & clear dreams than other days, so those are easier to remember upon waking up. As for other ones, I'll only be able to jot down bits and pieces. I've found that keeping track of my dreams helps me remember them better.

OH, DUH! Stupid me thought you meant you had a literal dream journal, as in a journal in your dream. That's smart though. If I have an odd dream, I usually rush to my computer after I wake up to jog it down. (I use a notepad on my computer)

No, but I used to keep a diary of sorts when I was younger. I was very creative with words and it was a way to express my feelings (within a book, yes) xD

I do, I do. I think it's vital. Not in a sense that it's a must to be normal or anything, but I feel it is vital as a glue to our life. With days passing by one after another, a way to store memories of them to look back on years in the future is wonderful. To be able to recall each success and each fail, each experience in our life, especially if a once in a life time one, is something we can't nor shouldn't leave to chance for remembering. We can use them to make art and stories of our lives and define who we were and are. To reflect upon the past and see how far we've come. Yes, that is something I treasure the thought of being able to do.

One person I know, would doodle in his journal, in order to make it entertaining to write in, and to read.

I attempt to maintain one on PWN, but I'm so busy that I rarely get the opportunity to post in it. That & I don't really have much to say in it. .-. I've never really kept one in real life though; just wasn't my thing. All the diaries I've ever had have been on forums. ;3
