Why/ why not? I just ban & delete the accounts. Why have them if they are spam?
What is your reasoning for keeping or deleting them?

I generally keep all accounts although I have on very odd occasions conducted a mass purge of old and obvious spam accounts.

My reason for keeping everything (including all deleted content) is to provide an audit trail. This helps me identify banned members attempting to create a second account and deal more effectively with persistent spammers. It also provides me with a safety net on the rare occasion a legal issue arises.

why keep on banning spam accounts if they end up coming back or if they are bots then 90% chance that they won't come back?

I let the FOurm do what it was made to do regards protecting

I delete any spam accounts because I don't want my stats skewed by a load of fake accounts. I won't delete banned users if they have a lot of content on the board so that it doesn't show up as "deleted user" with no good way to determine which deleted user made what content.

There are certain tools that will help you identify banned members who make new accounts. So when we keep those accounts in the DB, it helps spot the troublemakers.

Spam accounts create spam posts, therefore, I delete spam accounts. However, sometimes some members who end up getting banned have some interesting posts, so I keep the accounts even though they have been banned.

I keep all accounts whether they are spam accounts or banned accounts. My reason for doing this is so that they are there and I can refer back to them if I need to. I never ban for silly reasons on my forum and if you receive a ban it's usually because what you did was bad enough for a ban. Deleting that account would then allow the banned member to evade that ban and come back and do it again. Keeping that account means it will be flagged up as being the same details as a banned account and I can pinpoint when people are trying to ban evade.

IPB spam account defence is always detecting accounts that are bad and always banned them right after those fake accounts join. But since I hate the look of 50 pages worth of ban accounts I just delete them 😛 I see them join and no more, they do not join again hose fake accounts

If you delete them then why do you ban them? 😱

If it's an idiotic member that has gone loose I will ban and keep as a trophy but regular spam bots get deleted.

I keep banned accounts in the banned user group. If you delete their account, they'll probably re-register, unless you specifically banned their email address.

I ban so they don't come back 🙂

Global ban where we can include the IP.
Ooh. Sorry I'm a bit unsure on how Proboards work these days. Never really 'used' them before so didn't know what features they have. But good idea to block the IP but some of these spam bots come back again and again through different IP addresses 🙁 hope you're not having too much issues with them.

Obvious spam accounts = delete. Banned we keep, there's always the option to appeal in the future and I'm a firm believer in second chances.

Not lately, thank you 🙂

If they are banned, they have been given chances. I don't ban lightly 🙂

Unless it's a fake and bot account. I had many of those that end up joining getting banned and no longer coming back as they are not real people..
