I just close the lid on my laptop so it just sleeps while I sleep and then wakes up when I wake up (as it lies next to me on the other side of the bed).

I think It's best to give your PC a break every now and again... You have desktop grade components which means they aren't designed to be left on 24/7 I imagine you'll degrade the life of a component if you do leave it on all the time.

The primary toll on your computer is heat stress on the solder points, which causes them to crystallize and lose conductivity over time. This is caused by cycling your computer off and on, as well as processor load variations.

So it really depends on what you're doing with your computer, but in most cases, turning it off at the end of the day is a bit easier on it. Just don't be turning it off and on again a bunch of times throughout the day, or you'll be doing more harm than good.

I have never left my computer on all night, nor will I.

To me, the computer needs as much rest as I get, and the more you put it to sleep the more it is going to have issues later on. I actually switch my surge protector off at night, to keep it off. lol.

I cannot stand leaving it on all night, I even turn it off when I go places. xD

i leave my computer on overnight because i never sleep and i never log off my computer and my life is online

I usually turn my computer off at night, unless I'm doing things like running a big download. It's not really an electric bill cost reason or because I'm worried about the lifespan of my computer, but just because that's just how I've usually done it. That, and now if I leave it on, the glaring blue light on my mouse stays on all night.

I consider it to be a fire risk and turn it off at night. However there might be a few occasions where I turn it on in the middle of the night to start downloading something.

Yeah definitely..I know I shouldn't but when I have huge loads of stuff open for coursework I can't shut it down because it takes too long rooting for all the stuff again, so I've pretty much kept it on all this semester ><'

Leaving it on all night for no reason is wasting electricity as well as reducing the life of your components. Parts will only last for so long, why waste that time with you not using them?

I leave my work computer on all the time. My laptop, on the other hand, stays in "Sleep" mode when I'm not using it. I have a computer and another laptop as well, but I haven't booted them up for so long. I used to leave my desktop on basically as a home server, but then I found out that it was sucking up a ton of power.

I used to have this issue where if the power would even flicker, I'd have to restart my computer (I think my PSU needs replaced - the last one I installed was a spare from a friend). So, thinking to solve this problem in case I'm doing something important, I purchased a battery backup. It'll only last like 2 minutes if I have the computer plugged in, but without it, it'll last over 30 minutes. I even plugged my PC into my home automation system to find out that it was taking a ton of power (My Z-wave outlets measure electricity usage). So, I bought a touch screen laptop I found on sale at Best Buy. Heck, I needed something portable anyway, and my other laptop (actually a netbook), well, let's just say not to even think about running PhotoShop or After Effects on it 😀

That's my little story 😛

I leave it on, but the light gets annoying so I have a piece of clothing over it lmao.

I leave mine on most of the time, but do turn it off if I know I won't be using it the next day.

I've had mine on for weeks at a time before, I usually have no reason to turn it off unless it starts to bog down which tends to happen only if you decide to play an intensive graphical game after you leave your PC on for a couple days

I normally leave mine on over night. It's gotten to the point recently that I can't go to sleep without the sweet hum of those fans running. It's such a lovely, comforting sound. <3

Occasionally I leave mine on but not too often. I have no real purpose to.

Maybe a thread, if there isn't already, about WHY you leave your PC on o/n?
