Controversial topics often get a lot of attention.

It can be a great way to drive engagement in your community. But it can create a lot of toxicity in your community, too.

Is this something you practice?

Why or why not?

I never post controversial topics on Crafter Craze, but on Christianity Haven, sometimes it's a must. Things happen in modern society that should be discussed by Christians and not turn a blind eye to them. They don't always cause drama on the site and people can still have good conversations and be kind.

I try to avoid posting anything that I know will be very controversial because it usually ends up in heated debates. Although that being said, anything can be controversial if you think about it. I like pineapple on pizza and that tends to stir up a heated debated and that's very innocent! So it can be impossible to completely avoid it, I think common sense rules a bit and if you know it'll cause issues then I try to avoid it.

I generally don't make controversial posts on any of the forums I'm involved with. That said I'm not afraid to challenge people's views if I think they are misguided. For example we get a lot of asylum seekers crossing the English Channel from France and the general view usually leans towards the negative side of things. That's something I'll challenge and as it's a minority view it might be considered by some to be controversial.

I try not to post controversial topics on my community, I don't want it to lead to a toxic debate with people. A good debate is fine, but most of the time they lead to name calling and there's just no need for that.

Yep. I do. I don't shy away from controversial topics in the least. I believe that honesty is the best policy with certain topics and those topics often require brutal honesty, which helps create an honest discussion about them. I figured that these days this is what is needed since ignoring them, and burying our head in the sand regarding them and pretending that they didn't exist didn't work, so the only thing left is brutal honesty.

I have other areas of discussion for lighter topics, but for those that want to engage in legitimate discourse about these serious topics, in an effort to get a better understanding of them, and each other then that is what these areas are for. I have always wanted my forum to be a place where people can feel comfortable expressing themselves as long as they are respectful and I have often debated those I disagreed with politically and there hasn't been an issue.

Those that don't conduct themselves with maturity will not have access to these areas.. and if they persist they won't have access to the rest of the forum either.

I never post any sort of controversial content on anything. I tend to avoid anything that may start a debate or argument as I have no time/patience for that stuff. It’s not for me.

Personally, I don’t do it, but it’s not really weird. It’s ok (and even a bit good) to contribute with some new perspective/hot takes. Just as long as you don’t post something that’s actually harmful.

I avoid doing such thing because some people will complain "how can I allow others to spread lies" and others will say "why you delete my posts when i speak truth".

Personally, it's not something that I would do whether it's on my forum or another person's forum. Such discussions are very volatile which can threaten the peace of a community. I try to even stay out of the discussion.

Not at all, I wouldn't be interested in posting any kind of content that's controversial in my forum. This kind of contents can cause fights and tension in a forum. It can bring traffic and activities but it can hurt the forum.

There's a limit to the controversial topics you allow on your forum. It's true that it makes it all engaging but too much of it can have negative effects.
Even when members are engaging in these kinds of topics it is important than they do so respectfully.
Strike a balance.

I don't allow it, but I might change that, but I can't be involved in the discussions cause bad for business.

It depends, sometimes I do tend to if the forum I am posting on is the kind of niche that kind of topic would be good for but otherwise, I tend to steer clear from them.

I feel that sometimes it can be hit or miss with controversial content.

I hate toxicity and I tend to stick and stay away from that, I mean it can get out of hand but then you have to deal with it and end it if that's the case
