Some people refuse to divulge ban information to members, and others reveal all to members, myBB 1.6 even had a plugin that would have a ban list and the reasons of the ban that would display to everyone. When members get banned, do they deserve to have their ban concealed to the rest of the members, or should they have their ban publically open for all to see? Do banned members really need that kind of privacy?

I think it's a case-by-case basis kind of thing. In most cases, it's best to keep the information private. In some cases, though, it can be damaging to not disclose any information, so it's best to mention a general, pretty vague reason why the member was banned. It really just depends on the reason.

It all depends on the issue. If, for instance, a user proves to be a major threat to the forum or its members' safety, yes I will divulge the information so people can be safe against the threat.

If it's something petty like flame, no I will not divulge that information.

With me, I prefer to not divulge reasons for bans to people, but I understand that there are times where it would be preferred to give out selected information, on a case by case basis, on why someone may have banned.

Yep. On my forum we use a MyBb plugin that lists the ban length and reason in the members signature, profile, and mini-profile. We don't really get too detailed on the ban reason, though because of that.

I don't really care about keeping bans private. I won't announce them but if a member asks I will for sure tell them.
