I prefer earning money from Adsense and other paid per click ads since I don't really how to negotiate a price, look for costumers, and checking out their websites for scams, malware, porn, gambling, drugs and other material which does not go well with my websites theme or audience.
Affiliate marketing ads are also not bad since getting 4% or more from a $100 sale is pretty nice compared to a few cents from an ad click.
I feel some of the people I encounter who buy paid links are using blackhat SEO to artificially boost their page rank by buying 1000s of dofollow links without releasing if Google finds out, or someone reported them to Google for buying paid links both the advertiser and ad publisher may get bad search rankings according to a Google Webmasters.
I heard someone who said nofollow paid links are worthless because they don't pass link juice, so are not worth it.
