Are you better at one than the other? Do you act differently depending on which role?
I think I'm pretty good at being both. I'm an admin on my own forum & I have no other staff because 1- it's still quite young, 2- less stress. There is something to be said about having your own. The style, the way it can go.
I do try to act the same whether I’m on Staff or just a regular member.

I feel you, I enjoy being an admin on my own forum since I have a particular way of doing things. My forum is very new as well, so there is no need for additional assistance as of now.

I do enjoy being a regular member on other forums though, you get to focus on discussions and don't have to worry about juggling between administrating multiple forums, as well as get to see how different people run their forums

I enjoy both.

I join forums and get active and I'm often asked to be on the team. I usually decline because I'm happy to just be an active member.

Aside from here, where I enjoy being on the team, I'd rather only staff my own communities.

No commitment that way.

I'm a busy bee, folks!

I own two forums, I know how much work there is to be done as an Admin. Therefore, on someone else's forums, I wouldn't want to be an admin, a common member is fine as I will not have any obligations. Sometimes being a moderator is also good.

I would say I am pretty good at being a member and an admin but I will only admin on a certain amount of sites so as to not overload myself so I am more of a member on many forums than I am an admin. I do enjoy being an admin and creating a forum that can help others, give others a space to chat, share their opinions and meet new people. I love building communities so being an admin allows me to do that.

As a member, I enjoy being able to help others get their sites active and be an active member on forums to help with the activity.

Just thing admins do so much hard work and not even get paid

I don't mind being an Admin or Member, either works. I like to be helpful, so I wind up on staff at quite a few forums, but I also enjoy the care-free aspects of being a plain jane member. If someone wants me to help all the way up to an Admin rank, that's fine, I've been around forums since the mid-90s, I can do whatever they need or want and I enjoy doing that, and if not, that's perfectly fine, too 🙂. Do I act differently as an Admin versus a regular member? I like to think I don't, at least I don't intentionally go out of my way to do so. There are some forums where I'll keep things a little more professional (irrespective of rank), and some where I'm a bit more open, I'd say it's situational towards the forum rather than the rank.

I prefer being an admin of my own forum and a member of just about every other forum I visit. Administration can be demanding at times and you can deal with conflict that is hard to handle sometimes. I used to love being a staff member, but I'd rather be a staff member of a select few communities than several.

I prefer being a member and being able to support others run their own forums.

I don't mind both, TBH, and it depends on the forum; I've been doing forums for years and like to tinker with them; however, I don't jump on staff that much anymore on many of them as it becomes too time-consuming; I have found if you're involved with so many you can't give the site your attention, If I jump on staff I'm all in or I step away and stay a member.😉
