'Manga' is basically Japanese comic books. Japanese manga is printed and read in reverse from our 'normal' books. So it is read from back to front, from right to left. It can be serialized in magazines (there are weekly, biweekly, or monthly magazines which contain only a chapter of various titles) or in tankoubon (roughly means 'volume', meaning its own book, not serialized in magazines, like other comics we know). Click here for more information.

On the other side, 'manhwa' is Korean equivalent of such comic books. The physical appearance is more similar to our 'normal' books, as in read from front to back, from left to right. The text are also usually in horizontal lines, not in vertical lines like manga. What Korean manhwa is also famous for is that many of their comics are hosted/printed online legally and are usually in one-page long format. This is often referred to as 'webtoons'. Click here for more information.

So, after installing a manga reader on my mobile phone a while back, I managed to insert some titles which I had read before but somehow didn't catch up for a long time or just haven't finished yet. That got me back to the groove of reading manga. Currently on high anticipation for Tower of God (manhwa) and Assassination Classroom (manga). Yeah, I don't follow the big titles like One Piece, Bleach, Naruto, Fairy Tail, and so on. XD

What's your story?

I used to read manga. I don't find them near as entertaining as anime.

Sorry for the late reply! 😛

In a way I can understand. There is just this different feel to see characters move and talk, landscapes in colors, and especially added with music. Lately there are many manga adapted into anime each season so less reason to check the manga. Though there are still a bunch of other titles to check and you can read the manga to know the upcoming plot of the same anime in case you're way too curious.

Manga is cool and everything. I just like anime more. I will read the manga if I really liked the anime. So I read here and there. 😛

I used to read manga. Series such as Loveless, Gravitation and Yu-Gi-Oh!. I used to borrow the chapters from the library because I don't like to buy them.

I used to read manga online as well. I do prefer anime over manga because there is more action involved in anime. 😛

Me too! That brings back memories. When I was still in junior high school, I got to know more manga from a library near school. Or comic rental shop, to be precise. I also used to buy them when they were still cheap, then I found internet. 😀

Lately I've been watching more anime because it's more effortless (I'm so lazy lol) and because you just want to see few things animated than just black-and-white. 😛

Well I really like manga than anime. Why? It is really good, first. And second, I need the speed, anime is too slow.

Not always. Sometimes anime is faster, especially if released weekly compared to several manga which got released monthly. But the content and plot development may not always match the manga it's based on, if it's a manga adaptation.

Yay, I still like the main source Manga more. But I do not dislike anime.

I read ahead in the bleach manga when I reached the end of the anime. That's about it though. I also own SAO manga both in book form and also on kindle.

I love reading manga! Currently I'm part way through (and loving): JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 4, Ajin, My Hero Academia, One-Punch Man and Medaka Box.

I'm also reading Bleach as it comes out, as well as a few others I haven't completed yet (and can't recall by name).

Watching One-Punch Man the anime version right now and it's super awesome. I really need to read the manga as soon as possible! 😀
