Do you read the news? If not, why?

I don't always read the news, mainly because it seems like there aren't many stories on the good around the world that is happening.

sometimes here and there to keep updated on the outside life

Sure do and it gets more depressing each day. 🙁

This^ 😛

If I have to read about one more wild fire or one more mass shooting, geeze, I don't think I would be able to read the news again. 😛

Every time I open my browser it opens to CNN. I like to browse the headlines and read whatever catches my eye. I feel like as living humans we need to at least be somewhat aware of whats going on in the world.

Not really. I listen to a comedy podcast that makes fun of the news media's reporting over the last week, but that's about it.

Is there any particular reason you don't like to read the news or follow current events(rofl, I sound like my AP government teacher!)?

Most news, as reported, is just promoting the agenda of some company or political party. Real journalism is practically dead IMO.

What source(s) of journalism do you consider to be real?

Very few. 😛 There's also the other extreme like Alex Jones, who's just trying to sell apocalypse seeds (and Beck, who's trying to sell you gold),

I listen to http://www.noagendashow.com/ a lot. They're listener supported, so don't have ads.

What counts as news nowadays? 😛 Buzzfeed? The Onion? I read tech news quite frequently since I need to stay up to date in case a story breaks that I need to write about. Besides tech, I don't really follow the news.

The Onion?

Yeah, this is probably the most unbiased news source you can find. Way undermentioned in my opinion. :nyan:
Honestly, the accuracy of their content is stunning, amazing that someone can be right so often. :nyan:

My thoughts exactly... for a while there too all I could see are negative posts on Facebook as well. I can't control the news but I can help put more positive thoughts on Facebook for my family and friends so that's what I like to do post uplifting posts, cute pictures of animals, etc, just to break up the trend of talks about politics, bad news, etc.

I agree that the news doesn't showcase many stories on the good things going on with the world. I don't read/watch/listen to the news everyday but a few times a week I visit sites like The Guardian, Usa Today, BBC, etc to see what current events are going on in the world. They have op ed pieces too which aren't always depressing/sad. For good news, http://www.goodnewsnetwork.org is a good place to find positive stories of good deeds and things like that.

I used to watch the NBC nightly news. It usually wasn't that intense, and had a good amount of human interest stuff. The ultimate source of human interest stories is This American Life. Pretty good podcast.

I like the NBC nightly news. I feel like that is a quality news broadcast. I don't see biased news from them. They just report it.
